my laptop is beeping and will not stop...

i have tried reseting it and turning it off. the only way i can get the beep...beep...beep...beep to go away is to mute my PC speaker. what is going on? is this my PC's way of telling me i have a virus? please. i need some help. the beeping will not cease. the beeping even starts after about the first 2-3, maybe 4 seconds when my PC sarts booting up. it stops at the windows loading screen and then picks back up when windows get loaded. it is very annoying and i think it may have just started in the past few days, the reason i dont know exactly when is because i have had my external speakers turned down. anyhow, i apologize for making this so long. but if anyone has any idea of what the steady, constant beeping noise is or what is causing it, please help. thanks.

Does the battery light show green or amber ? You can also go into the BIOS and turn off the Start Up Beeps and Low Battery Beep.

Sounds like the overheating beep... Do you have two of the four lights flashing on and off in time with the beeps? If so, it's time to clean out your laptop, dust is clogging it all up and preventing it from staying cool.
