problem with taskbar

Ok guys, I have this problem that I can't get resolved so I'll post it up.

In my taskbar, I don't have any of the icons of the programs taht are currently running. Not talking about the quick launch, the regular tastkbar. And, I don't know how to get them back. It happened after I performed jammaster's registry tweak, but after putting back the original xp services I still have this little problem. So it might be a windows service related problem, or a string in the registry that I don't know about.

I too have this problem on my desktop. The task area is gone! I have learned to live with this for many months. I resorted to just using the middle button of the mouse - I configured it to switch between active windows. In fact I learned that it's much faster than going to the task area and switching tasks that way. Now regardless of whether the task area is gone or not I always use the middle button to switch tasks.

Back on topic, I figured it must be some software that I installed. Once I did a clean install of XP but after a little while and some software installations it was gone again.
