how can i boot from me system disk?

i am going to wipe my 8887 tonight. so many oddball problems. just can't take it anymore. she takes 3-5 minutes just to shut down now....wtf.

i have only installed OS on macintosh before, the last windows install i performed was Windows for Workgroups 3.11 back in 1995. methinks some things have changed. i assume that i must 1)first boot from disk 2)run some sort of format utility from the disk 3)run xp install for disk. am i naive to hope and assume that winblows would be so simple?

i havent figured out a way to boot from the cd yet, when i put it in the comp, there is no option for me to boot from cd up startup. maybe i need to hit a special key combo er something.

any suggestions are really appreciated.

To boot from the CD go into the BIOS and change the boot order so it looks at the CD first. On reboot it will prompt you with somehting like "...press any key to boot from CDROM...". Press a key ONLY when you want to boot from CD, otherwise it will wait a few seconds and then go onto the HDD to boot. Usually, when reinstalling, you boot from the CD once, and then let the machine boot from the new install. When you're all done, go back into the BIOS and change the boot order again. Good luck.

If you are using the Sager-provided Recovery CD, which contains Windows XP SP1, you should be able to boot from the CD. This thread explains how to boot from CD and install drivers. Of course, ignore the first part about reflashing your BIOS.
