Went to retail stores to find better deal then 8887...

Well Im getting a laptop as a graduation gift, and after a lot of researching i picked the sager. Well my mom is really, 'old fashioned' and wants me to get one from a retail store. I kept telling her that theres no way im wasting money by going retail. So i printed out the 8887 configured my way and it came to around 2300 decked with 3.06 and all that. So to humor her i agreed to go laptop shopping today. We grabbed the printed specs and headed to the mall.

First stop: Circuit City

Went in, looked at laptops for a little and my mom asked one of the employees to configure a laptop with similar specs and hopefully similar or cheaper price than the sager. The guy could only get up to like a 2.8 p4 and it came to around 2k. She kept asking why he couldnt get it configured the same way as the sager and he finally told her they dont carry that high end there. I had a small smirk growing on my face.

Second stop: CompUSSR er.. USA

Went in, headed to the laptop department in the back. I started to look at the new toshiba display with CASV, and boy is it nice. I saw a little USB plug sticking out the side so with curiosity i pulled it out, and it took the employees a good ten minutes to make the gut wrenching audible alarm to ceise. The employee who saw the laptop was amazed at the though of dual cd roms and 3ghz. He called the manager over and he brought some toshiba specs which the closest came up to 2,800 dollars and still behind the Sager. I told him to truthfully tell me his opinion and he said it was a great deal and told my mom that i should deffinetly go for the Sager.

Third stop: Best Buy

Walked in, headed to laptop section, played around for a bit. When it wasnt so busy she asked one of the employees to see if he can configure a laptop similar to the Sager and hopefully cheaper. He looked at the paper for a second and he said 'no' and my mom kept inquiring and he kept telling her that we have nothing 'remotely close to these specs' and finally gave in and went and configured an Alienware laptop with a 2.8 and similar specs to the Sager for 2,700. We walked out and i told her that i wasnt an idiot and just went to jump in this head first because i will be majoring in graphic arts so i need a system to help me out a little.

Anyways hopefully ill get the 8887 soon.

Hahahaha ya man my parents are computer-retarded. My dad knows nothing but atleast admits it. My sister and mother know how to use the internet and that's it, wouldn't know how to fix anything even if they had a guide to do it. They always act like they know what they're talking about. It's pretty funny sometimes. I can't wait to get the 5680. I suggest you wait for the 8889 to come out. Only a few months away dude and SO much better.

Whats the use of waiting. I want to play on it now, not in a few months. Theres always something better around the corner.

Trust me you'll be kicking yourself in the ass in a month or two when our 3dmark scores are more then double what yours are, and you can barely run any modern games.

Good things come to those who wait.

patience is a virtue. why not use a little and wait until the 5680 and 8890 comes out. you definitely won't regret it.

When will it come out.
end of july, early august. check out the news section for the official specs, etc.

Definitely worth it... Just remember some upgrades occur only once every 2-3 years, like 800mhz FSB, 5.1 sound on laptop, 7200rpm HDs, RAID, and 3.2ghz HT processor. Not to mention the 9600Pro. I'd suggest waiting, as this next upgrade won't be just an incremental one.

what ever dude, have you looked at the video for half-life 2 and then the min. requirements? 700 MHz 128 MB ram and a DX6 or higher card.

i think the 8887 will run that FINE!

no worries dude, get it now. and even if you WANT to upgrade, it is only a quarter of the costs. ($495)

Do remember...that's not a price set in stone for an upgrade...or even a guarantee that there will be one available.

I would wait. It's only a few months and that is worth the wait, especially if you are going to want to upgrade (and spend 500 bucks) at that point anyways.

Thats the MINIMUM requirements

It will look like crap...

And the talked about "upgrade" doesn't upgrade everything. You have to pick some of it I hear. And at the same time it hasn't even been confirmed it's going to be available.

I am waiting, and even if you don't get to play for the next 2 months, oh well. Your friends will envy your screaming machine when you do get it.

A lot of people are saying the new stuff coming out within the next few months are a "milestone" in the desktop replacement arena. The whole laptop market is changing drastically right now, starting to aim more towards phasing out the tower and replacing it with a fast, mobile, desktop replacement. I'm sure desktops will be gone in the next 5-10 years. It's just the next logical step in the computer world.

Look at Alienware... Instead of staying with Clevo they have invested in having their own laptops, designed by them, made how they want. So a whole new laptop design is coming out soon from them.

Really, it would be best to wait. A lot of stuff is going on right now, and it's all gonna come in a big wave. So, get your board ready :P Or, get the laptop now and you can watch it all happen from the shore

*sigh*

I wish i waited for all of these..
o well my 5660 is still nice..
jacked up 4060 is an option. cheap but still sager quality, and you can save up money for a new laptop more quickly.

personally, i wouldn't wait. i don't regret **** like this, a whole summer is worth a lesser, and if a better machine comes, so be it. damn it don't waste your life worrying about being happy.

amen to that

I understand reasons for everyone to be waiting for the new wave of technological advancements, however my logic is that those advancements are going to come at a much higher cost:

premium for 3.2ghz
expensive 4gb of dual channel ddr400mhz ram
new graphics card shouldnt be too bad however it is still an increase
80gb 7200rpm hd will be hella expensive
new motherboard to support all this will certianyl have an increase in price

aside from that, the main reason I bought my decked out 5670 now is because:

1) There is no guarentee that I will be able to even get a laptop if I dont do it now (financial issues and parental will)
2) It seriously my last summer to do any real game playing (just graduated from hs, going to college)
3) I dont want to spend my life waiting, I do what I can when I can, now.
4) basic philosophy, happiness is not a goal, happiness is a state of being, its not an "i'll be happy when [sager 5680 comes out]..." issue
5) A 5670/8887 now will last at LEAST another 3 years, by then a new wave of technological advancements have been developed and you will want to buy that.
6) 5680/8888 will have a lower amount of battery power due to increased power requirements.

With that in mind do as you will, waiting has its rewards, however it also has its consequences (e.g. being computer handicapped with friends over your last summer before college)

p.s. excuse the bias towards buying the laptop now, but I consider the above to be all valid reasons.

I dont want to weight but i can think of some good reasons why i am. first the 5680/8890 will proboly drive down the caust of the 5670/8887. i have already seen a price drop in both of them. if the prices drop hen that will proboy mean that the prices for the5680/8890 will be right around the same as the 5670/8887 when the came out.
but then again if your weighting for new tech stuff to come out then you could be weighing a life time becasue new stuff is relesed every day.
