jswriter,

Thank you for your message. We are absolutely understand your concern, however, we also have to consider with the marketing strategy in the North America market. If you do like the WSXGA+, then the W1N is a good choice, right. However, there may be an opportunity to have the WSXGA+ whitebook in the market in the future, but it is really depends on the decision from our Taiwan headquater. Thank you.

Anyone looking to buy the M6N should consider the AOpen 1557GLS or CL-56.
Why you say? Well because they can kick the M6n's ass, that's why. Plus they're a heck of a lot cheaper.
Just my $ .02 cents.

PS - What do you think of that, "Asus Cust Rep"?

I dont think it's cool to be crashing a thread for people to ask an Asus customer rep questions about ASUS products. Im sure many people DONT want to hear about AOpen products when they go to a thread about ASUS products.

On a lighter note, I have a question for you Asus Customer Rep.

I am moving to Japan in about 17 days and I was wondering if the W1Na could be bought in Japan because I didnt see it on the Japanese website. Also would you happen to know if it works with Japanese teleivision?

Since I'm not bringing a Television with me or anything, I might as well buy a new widescreen desktop replacement to accompany my Asus S5Ne (which I use for buisness trips).

I'd have my setup like this. Asus S5NE for when I travel and work in Japan and have my Asus W1Na at home. Ahh...Asus S5NE and Asus W1Na..two of the most beautiful laptops...what a great couple, true love indeed .

VFvergara,

Thank you for your message. First, I will like to let you know that W1N in the US market in which does not have the TV-turner function. I do feel sorry about that, but we have to consider the network compability, so the version for W1N in the US market in which does not have the TV-turner. However, the W1N has the 2 year global warranty, so it is no problem for you to go to Japan if you need any service or troubleshooting from ASUS branch office in Japan.
If you want to have the W1Na notebook with the TV-turner, then you may have to purchase it from Taiwan there. Thank you.

Hi Pogi,

Thank you for your message. I will have the first question, "how long do you have for your M6Ne notebook?" The reason why I ask this question is because that the battery is only warranty for 6 months from the first date of your purchase. So, if your notebook is within 6 months new, then you can contact our ASUS tech support department and then you can go to do the RMA service for that. However, if your notebook is over 6 months old, then I will recommend that you have to purchase an other batter then. Thank you.

Surge540,

Thank you for your message. Actually everyone in here will be able to buy any brand of the notebook. Of course some people may like Acer, however, there are more people may like ASUS too. Price is the one issue for you to consider when you are going to buy a notebook, however, it is not the only issue for ASUS notebook. We do care about the service, quality and the performance on the notebook. Therefore, that's why there are so many people who love ASUS notebooks. Thank you.

Seriously, Surge540, did anyone crash your 1557GL build review "party". Though the content of your post might ring true, your choice of venue is horrible and your "jab" at Asus Cust Rep who has been helping Asus owners and speculative buyers here is simply uncalled for.

yes i have an M6BNe already, but the W1N has a few better feature like the better LCD, and woofer and metallic finish and such.

At the time I had the W1, it had comparable specs to a well equipped m6. Now of course, it doesnt. Would be nice to see Asus come out with a W1 barebones... and use that unused tv-tuner slot as internal bluetooth instead? (already suggested to Asus. Hopefully they run with the idea)

Dont let the boneheads bother you Asus rep- you are doing a great job.

ASUS Cust Rep, I had a question regarding the M5N. I am considering getting this notebook but was concerned with the amount of memory I can put in it. Can I stick in 1 GB micro sodimm? Will the motherboard accept it? I know that it supports up to 2.0 GHz processors but my concerrn is the memory. I want to have at least 1GB. Also there is only 1 accessible slot correct? Thanks

I would so greatly love it if they left the TV tuner and miniPCI slots empty, put them right next to each other, and shove some kind of mini Audigy2 in there.

Scoob-

Have you checked out the sound specs? There is a combo 1.8th inch jack (headphones) and spdif/optical (toslink) out. Sounds fantastic, for a laptop. Really, I hear no hiss, no noise at all no matter what my W1 happens to be doing.

The TV tuner sits in a modified minipci slot. How modified, I dont know, I havent played with it. But the tv tuner card is minipci, in addition to the minipci that holds the intel wifi card.

Were there other minipci cards out there, you could do something. Socket produces bluetooth chipsets, just a matter of making a PCB that it sits on, pinouts, and redo the socket drivers. Not a tough task at all.

What Asus isnt telling anyone, sounds like corporate in taiwan is either undecided or keeping it secret- is what the next phase of Asus laptops is going to be. The W1 might be phased out entirely, and then all my cool plans above would be moot.

I love to listen to my mp3s on my W1 though- and I do 224kb and above sample rate. They sound great in headphones.

Hi,
I bought Asus L4R last month. after just 3 weeks, I've got a problem when trying to turn the notebook on. Everytime I click the ON/OFF button, it's just hummed for 3-4 seconds but then no activity. The LED (status) indicator in the front side is lighted on but the Drive activity above the keyboard is off. Sometimes, after 10-15 minutes the notebook finally alives but it takes a long time and a lot of patience to do this.
This problem happens regardless of the power source : AC power (both with and without battery attached) or DC power.
Pls advise.

regards,

Thanks for the reply Asus Cust Rep. My question is if I can buy the W1Na in Japan?

The first batch of ASUS M6's had an issue with the battery not fitting snuggly into the latch. The fix kit if you want to call it was a little piece of cardboard with sticky tape to fill the latch area to make it fit tightly into the chassis. I made my own with a little piece of business card and superglue.

Good luck

Dead Pixels

Why ASUS cannot guarantee that their screens are free of the dead pixel problem? as Dell does, Toshiba, etc. Why understand the 5 dead pixel policy? Many retailers charge some extra money to ensure that you will give a notebook without a defective screen.
I have NEVER seen Dell or Toshiba guarantee 0 pixels!
