Thinking of buying a 257SA1...

Who on these forums would be interested in a review of the updated Uniwill 257SA1 (replacing the 258SA0)? I've found a distributor with one in stock and was contemplating purchasing it in order to offer a review and perhaps a definitive answer on whether or not they had resolved the much discussed heat issues of it's predecessor. To that end, though the new chipset supports the Prescott, I was thinking about building with a Northwood so it would be a more accurate comparison. Any thoughts? Oh, and anyone who would want to buy it after the review is done?

I would be interested to know if it is just a pretty new case desig or if they actaully made some design improvements

Unleaded - What did you decide?

Do you know what the specific differences are in this refresh?

I'd be interested in what this new case would be like. I ended up returning my G3 because of the heat. Hopefully they did a better job of cooling the hard drive or at least shielding the palmrests from it.

Other than the gpu upgrade, the sa1 supports northwood and prescott cpus, has the mp3 playback controls on the front (with mini-LCD), allows playing music without booting up.
the size is almost identical.

Since it's garnered some interest, I'll order it. I will be building as follows:

3.0 P4 Northwood (so we can better guage any thermal shielding improvements)
512MB DDR 400
DVD/CDRW Combo Drive
60GB 7200RPM HD
Intel Pro Wireless 2200b/g

If you'd like to see it configured otherwise, let me know. As CoffeeShark noted, the only real changes in this upgraded model is support for Prescott (not going to get one as I want to do an apples to apples heat comparison with the 258SA0) and an upgrade to an MR9700 w/ 128MB VRAM. At this point, we just don't know if they have improved anything with regard to thermal properties....but we will soon.

Come on, get the prescott too and see how they compare

Where are you buying the barebones from? Do you have any pics of what it looks like?

While you're at it why don't you also get a 3.4 P4EE and test it out for us.
