Freshly painted D500p

It's not a Sager, but same thing (Eurocom D500p) as a 5680 i believe. I wanted to paint it to match my truck, took a while to find the matching paint, but I did it. It's nothing crazy, just the palm rest and insignia badge on teh top.

P.S. The server is in my room, so it will be pretty slow im sure...and possibly go down, as the power is crappy here. Just a warning.

Nice job! did you paint it yourself? How hard and and expensive was it to do it yourself? It looks like you got a nice shine on it and it looks smooth..good job..

Very Impressive! That's one of the awsome features of the 56XX series Sagers.... the removable and separate wrist rest

That's exactly how I felt for the longest time, then the newness did wear off, one day I was bored and tada! The paint was actually wearing off of the palm rest, so I thought why not paint it?

As far as cost goes, it was about $20(cdn) for all the paint and sandpaper. I did krylon primer, duplicolor automotive paint from canadian tire and some kind of clear coat from wal-mart. Time wise, it took a while to sand and paint and really I should have waited longer, the clearcoat is still soft. I think you have to put really thin coats and let them completely dry between coats

did you have to take parts completely out of main case? was it pretty easy to disassemble? and do you know if that voids any warranty or anyhing?

i have a question. did you use a spray paint? if yes, could you give me some specs on it? like what brand, where did you get it, why this king of spray.

thanks a lot

Well, I used spraypaint, got it from Canadian Tire - it was that dupli-colour stuff. The colour is Toyota Orange, sprayed about 3 coats of primer, let them dry between, sanded smooth. Then went on to the base (orange coat) did about 7 of those and then finally some spraycan Clear coat. That clear coat works wonders, even the cheap stuff. Just make sure to let it dry completely between coats or else it stays gummy forever.

As far as warranty goes, I really don't know, mine is gone anyways. Taking off the palm rest is quite easy. I just started at the bottom lip where it curls under and pryed *Carefully* until the clips popped off and then just sort of keep pulling towards the top.

did the clear coat give it a shine?

There are excellent guides to spray painting your computer out there.
http://guides.pimprig.com
http://linear1.org/mods

Pimprig's painting section and linear1's how tos cover desktops, but it's basically the same for your laptop. They're great guides on how to use spraypaint to get the same effect as ordering prepainted systems. It'll cost you hundreds less, but take up 1 week of your time.

i've used these to paint my old Dell inspiron PIII. What sucks with painting laptops is taking everything apart is more cumbersome than a desktop. And sanding down the various parts sucks as well because of the small surface areas.

Also, I live in Montreal. And I did it during the winter (bad idea).
you need a comfortable temperature and low humidity for the best finish.
I did it in my basement with fans and windows open but it didn't stop the awful fumes and paint mists getting everywhere. Do it outside.

If you need any more info on painting your laptop, just ask.

Forgot to mention there's also a thread in the forums about modding your Dell which has info on painting.

Here are some pics from my first paint job. You can see the graphics I blatantly ripped off from Voodoo, just so I could experiment with adding tattoos and such. I've since repainted this laptop dark blue and sold it.

can you tell me where you got te tattoo from? did u use the vinil to get it on there?
Well, like I mentioned before, it's a full on rip off from Voodoopc. So what I did was I painted the red on the laptop and sanded that, then I downloaded the tattoo from Voodoo's website. I made some quick modifications to the .jpg so it would fit on my own laptop lid. I then printed it on decal paper, then used an exacto knife to cut out the graphics. next, I applied the decal to the painted laptop lid and painted the silver. When it was dry, I removed the decal, washed and cleaned the lid and applied clearcoat. The same was done for the "Dork." letters but that was my own handwriting on decal which was then cut out with exacto knife.
