Abit AI7 mobo, recommended?

I found a good combo deal for a Abit AI7 mobo with a P4 3.2, is this board good? I found some good reviews on it but they're from late spring '04, just want to compare it to current mobos.
Any other combos you recommend?

The problem with current mobo's is that they feature new sockets. In the P4 environment that would be the LGA775. These mobo's have many new stuff generally just as PCIexpress, DDR2, blablabla.

The abit AI7 looks like a very nice board however. The intel 865PE chipset is afaiik a very good one. Furthermore it has all the standard Old gen P4 goodies such as 800MHz FSB, 4*dual DDR400, 2*SATA 150 w/ RAID 0/1, USb 2.0, onboard sound/lan. More it has 3 firewire ports which could always be nice.

So imo, if you want P4 (AMD outsold Intel in Retail Desktops ) and do not want to go into the new P4 LGA775 FF (which require more $$$ for PCI-E vga cards, CPUs (a lil), DDR2 Memory etc),
then I'd say it looks like a very nice board

Cheers,

Thanks Thomas! I found a fairly good deal for this combo at $300. I'm putting my Athlon system away, WAY too hot and noisy for my taste.

I have the AI7 and it's rock stable overclocked. The board takes a 478 pin cpu (which believe me is going to be around a while.
It has great voltages, cooling, and it overclocks really good.

thanks neocontra

Also, what do you guys recommend for a video card under $200?

for under 200 look for a radeon 9800 pro or better. Also, a lot of ati cards made by ati/sapphire are really great overclockers.
Check out some deal forums to find one that's on sale, and i'd check out ebay. Picewatch is good as well as froogle.

Thanks, I also thought the 9800 pro would be my best bet so I got it. All my gear is arriving Monday

Just be careful, there are a lot of 9800 pro 128mb 128-bit cards going around for cheap, and are not the same as the 128mb 256-bit cards. So keep your eye keen.

Wow, the other day I almost bought a 128-bit one, what difference does it make?
The 128-bit ones suck badly compared to the 256-bit ones, that's the gist of it...

The 128-bit ones came out as a "value" line, intending to dupe the consumer, but are not being made anymore cause of all the angry people feeling like they got ripped (which they did)...
However they are still being sold so look out for em...
