Network Adapter Drops Connection

Just recieved my 5690 yesterday. Loaded up windows xp sp2 on it. Installed all the drivers from the driver cd. Plugged into my home network. Started crusin around the net ... worked fine for 5 minutes. Then my connection becomes partially dropped/disconnected/whathaveu.

I maintain an ip address and can ping things just fine. But all websites and ftp connection attempts I make result in errors. Any attempt to release/renew connection results in timeout error/errors

I have changed network cables and tried 2 different networks. (Tried at work this morning). I can visit around 5 sites or download 1 file. The next file/site I visit causes the error. If I use the realtek diagnostics program there appears to be no error. If I have that program reload the drivers or reboot the comptuer everything works fine.

I've updated to the latest realtek drivers from their site. Still no help.

Anybody with the same situation out there or know what might be going on?

Just to keep this thread updated in case other have problem:

I contacted Sager tech support. Talked to Ted. He advised me to mess around with the advanced settings for the network adapter - manually setting the speed to 10 mbit half duplex and trying it... then changing to 10 mbit full duplex... and so on. Sad to say I had no luck. Hoping to hear back from him later today. I bought a wireless router today so tonight I can try that out. I may reinstall windows and see if that helps. I'll keep this thread uptodate.

Another update:

+1 to Sager for having quick responses to my emails from their tech support.

We tried a few more things and nothing helped. I've now got this my wireless network setup at home and am typing this message with it. Everything is working fine. I'm going to try some more things tonight with the wired connection but I'm probably not going to get anywhere. I'll post back tomorrow with any more news I hear from Sager.

Just another update.... and its a good one. Last night I reinstalled windows xp professional. Went back to the original cd. No updates. Got all the updated drivers by using my wireless connection. Then installed the hard wire drivers and setup that connection. Used it for 1 1/2 HOURS without a problem. Then went to bed.

Today at work I've did all the updates from winupdates.com and also installed SP2. So far I've been connected and cruising around for 30 minutes. Seems like my problem was mostly related to a bumb'd install of windows or something getting messed when I did the SP2 update before.

SOOOOO... this leaves me one very happy Sager/PCTorque customer. I'm extremely happy with the laptop. Now if I get the backpack I ordered soon I'll be a completely satisfied customer!

Thanks much Sager/PCTorque
