Processor Speed

Thread Starter
I have recently purchased an HP Notebook with an AMD Processor at 1.6 Ghz, however when I check on "My Computer" it shows that the processor is operation at only 498 Mhz. Is there anyway to fix this so it works at its correct speed? and if so how? thanx a lot guys.

Search these forums for Power Now. And don't believe what Windows reports as your speed. Use CPUId or SiSoft Sandra or Power Now! dashboard, anything but XP Device Manager. You might also check over here: AMD Forums.

The reason it says that is because it seems to be downclocking when there isn't anything to do. This is a power-saving/heat-reducing feature of most laptops nowadays. If you are doing something computationally-intensive, then it will go back up to 1.6Ghz.
