Hello:
My mom hosed her older Tecra 8000 laptop so I reinstalled Windows 2000 Pro. In so doing I attempted to get rid of a partition that's been causing difficulties. I was unable to do so but I'll work around that. The problem is that after installing the OS I am unable to access the Internet with her cable modem, or even by dial-up (Gag!). Every diagnostic/troubleshooting function indicates the devices/drivers, etc. are working properly but obviously something ain't right! I've changed NIC's and dongles, loaded and reloaded Windows, all to no avail. Is there a means whereby I can determine which drivers I need? (I really have no idea as to whether this is even the problem but I feel certain it is). The task manager reads "Local Area Connection/Network cable unplugged." I contacted tech support for the cable and went through the resetting procedure. We attempted to reconfigured the IP address and pinged my other computer. Nothing worked. Of possible note is that in reloading Windows I find IE 5 as the browser but I can't upgrade if I can't get to the Net! Any suggestions? PLEASE!
Thanks everyone. Sententious@cox.net
