Installing XP over Linux

Have a DT that has Linux but want to blow it away and install XP. Went through the whole process of formatting the HD and it boots to the XP splash screen but I get an unrecoverable error and the only choice is to shutdown.

Is there anything I have to do with regards to Linux? I just want to get rid of it and install XP.

TIA.

did you repartition it to put a FAT/NTFS partition instead of the EXT/Swap/etc. partitions?

Yes, I completely formatted the C drive with NTFS.

One thing though when formatting the drive it says:

C: Partition1 [New(Raw)]

yeah, Raw is unpartitioned, you need to create a partition on it

If you got to the splash screen, then it sounds like you were able to install the OS so pertition shouldn't be the problem. These errors are usually caused by hardware problems that XP doesn't know what to do with.

I would scan the harddrive first to checkfor bad sectors first, then look for any other hardware problems.

Thanks for all the help.

I used fdisk to blow away the partitions and re-install XP. Seems to be smooth so far.

a tip for future linux installs, always install the boot loader to the MBR so it is easily removed, i didn't do this once, and had to do a Low Level Format to get it back to normal.
