Windows XP

Thread Starter
Hi guys, I understand that this is the wrong forum for my question, but I'm about to order a sager 3790 from PCTorque and I'm not sure if I need to order a copy of winxp or not. I have a desktop with winxp on it that has been activated. I have the winxp disk and all that. I was wondering if I could use that disk to install and activate winxp on my new sager. Is it possible for both computers to have winxp? If not, is it possible for me to have winxp on the sager if I uninstall winxp on the desktop? Or is it impossible to have winxp on another machine after it is activated on another one already?

Thanks

If you completely and permanently remove it from your desktop, you should be able to use it on your laptop. It should give you a new activation code. You may have to call Microsoft to verify that you're not stealing it.

If you intend to keep it installed on your desktop, then I strongly urge you to buy a new copy.

yep... windows requires 1 key per machines... whereas office allows 1 key for both 1 desktop and 1 laptop simulaneously...

In other words legally you can't use the same XP cd on 2 computers. Even if you have to reformat your drive you have to call Microsoft to get a new key because they won't allow you to activate the same key twice.

Actually, you are allowed quite a few reactivations. This is to account for changes in hardware. However, with a large enough "change of hardware", ie, new computer, you may have to call Microsoft to get a new key. Just try this and see what happens.

You can activate on both machines, its just not legal. PS. if you had an OEM copy of Win xp it doesn't require activation. ;o)
