I'm still a little disappointed that the Optical drives don't seem to be slot load. still once those paintjobs are up and runnin' it will be hard to deny myself. Must... wait.... AMD.......WUXGA.......uugggghhh!!!!!!

Eujrocom are advertising their phantom as slot loading. They even Have slot loading drives for the mirage ( their version of an 8790 ). Shouldn't be a problem for PCT to have it ?

Best Regards

Control....we have touch down

I'm really pleased that after so much hard work and effort it's out of the oven and ready for the plate! It's one thing to track the financials. It's another to drool over the desk for months waiting for the the new baby to arrive. It's another to finally see the results. Ana and Tom should be charbroiling theirs now and I'll be the first in line to get their independent write-ups.

Improved cooling, audio, video, bios, Hd's, interface this unit is going to set the industry on it's head and I'm looking forward to placing my order for dinner with ALL the trimmings. This will fill my need.

Next project is the integrated a/v, security, entertainment, ambient...etc. [roll everything into one ] sweet package for the home and office. Imagine entering your home where at key sites remote flat screen 17" monitors abide and in your inner sactum santorium a super gloss 72" HDTV flatscreen awaits your VERBAL command...."hello Hal. I've been waiting. Would you like to review security or connect to satellite?" I can hardly wait.

Hehehe, a couple of my friends have just gotten the 9100 or XPS. I couldn't agree more with my older bro's opinion: "what's that thing it's sitting on?" It definitely looks like a laptop that's been attatched to a cooling station or something. Sure I'm headin out tomorrow to school still packing my old 933mhz dell B-series desktop (top of the line not so long ago mind you!) But soon it will all be worth it. It's probably better to go party this first few weeks than fiddle with a new laptop anyways, plus I need to save some more

I still have an old HPzt1100(bought 2.7 years ago) celeron 1.3 gig which runs at 72 degrees and even higher, and I do not except too much before it explods to my face one of these days. So I need a laptop asap, but one I can upgrade later even if it costs a little more.
and do they ship this super wonderful PCI-E to Europe?cuz here, it takes a while to get the last model, and I do not talk about own specification.

An AMD based Notebook on with the Athlon64 FX would be cool, but it's definitely not worth the complete loss of battery life for the incremental performance increase. If I wanted not battery life at all, I'd get an Intel.
I do think the first chipsets with PCI-X are mostly 939 though, so I wouldn't be surprised if the 4750 version of the 9860 was a 939-pin, but that would be really annoying.

At the very least, having the option of using the Mobile Athlon is a nice feature, less heat, over 2 hours battery life (Even more if you get the Low Power models, which are only up to 2800+ right now, but by this winter, maybe up to 3200+ or 3400+).

what is faster regadless of battery, the AMD 64 3.2 or the pentium 3.2???
Depends on what you're doing with it. If you're doing business applications or a lot of video encoding, P4 tends to be faster. On pretty much everything else, especially gaming, Athlon64 is definitely much faster.

And you get the added bonus of 64-bit capabilities!!

What a hysterical comment.

Intel rakes in hundreds of millions - billions of profits in the past ten years and AMD squeaks by barely making money at all - and YET HAS BEEN MAKING PROCESSORS AT LEAST AS GOOD IF NOT BETTER THAN INTEL FOR THE LAST 3-4 YEARS

In order to maintain market share Intel resorts to unethical means of strongarming other motherboard manufacturers not to make AMD chipsets.

AND WHAT COMPANY IS FAT, LAZY, OBESE, AND MONOPOLISTIC?

Yes it's those little knobs in the middle of the keyboard.

So.. I'm wrong and AMD are making their own chipsets? I love that you based your entire response on one word in my post. Simply beautiful.

Go pick a fight with someone else to start your AMD vs Intel debate, I don't prefer one over the other, personally. I was simply answering why there are no AMD PCI-Express chipsets.

Hey Luke! is that 2,600 price the midgrade S version or would that be the entry price for the laptop?

Bah! Rockdirect and savrow are the only uk distros I know of and savrow have very limited options. Emailed Rockdirect today about new model but its sunday, they'll probably reply tommorrow. The bochure on their website is for september/october so maybe november will be celebration time. Of course I could order from PCTorque but they don't accept international credit cards and only one year localised warranty.

EDIT: Forgot to give my view on the new 9860!!!! This laptop will have everything I could want in a desktop replacement. 2 hard drives AND 2 optical drives. The 5.4 kilo weight is a definate problem though (I put 5.7 kg of weights into a backpack and tried walking around. Ok for short trips but not for more than half an hour)

I love my University. Since I am driving about 45 miles to go teach there they offered my $5000 for anything I want. Hello 9860
