I'm toying with the idea of having the second drive as a separate install for Linux.
Anyone have any experience with Linux on Clevo/ Sager machines/ Luke have you heard of/ tried this?
Lots of questions, I'd be interested to see if anyone has similar interests.
I'm in that catagory as well. The machine will be running Linux for most of its lifetime, with only occasional usage of the Windows partition for certain games which have to be run from Windows (many games can be run from the Linux partitions, NWN in particular.)
As good as this machine looks to be, I'll probably wait for the AMD 64 version since I really don't much care for Intel's offerings as they run too hot and use too much power. I'll be much happier with a mobile or even an LP AMD 64 CPU.
But the really big attractions on this new class of machine from Sager are the GPU (Nvidia! *cheer*) and the video-in capability. Nvidia is the GPU of choice for Linux users due to driver issues with ATI chips. Video-in means that you have access to that yummy LCD for other devices, such as PS2 gaming, external DVD players, cable TV, etc. I'll be digging for info on the TV tuner capabilities of these new Sager machines when the review hits this site early this coming week.
All-in-all, this 9860 machine looks to be the Top Cat of laptops for the coming few months and I only hope the AMD 64-based machines are soon to come.
Oh, before I forget, I've been running Linux since 1996 and on laptops since 1999 and know there is much information and support on the web for dealing with install and operational issues on machines as concerns Linux. Do understand though that new machines sometimes require that you wait a bit for drivers or other software to be added. Sometime having a dual boot system is a good thing.
