This group has been great! You have all helped me feel good about my purchase and confident in getting the support I need. If feel I've made a good investment in service not a "Brand Name". Anyway I've been doing computer based music production for around 10 years. I have been using a mac for everything and my 8886 will be my first PC. Starting Jan. I will also become a rep. for Native Instruments and know their products really well. I have worked for Guitar Centr for the past two years now and have had the opportunity to learn/use just about every program out their (if its on the mac, of course). I just got cubase SX so I will learn it this week after I get my 8886. So If anyone has any questions ask away, I am greatfull to share my knowledge to you! (p.s. If anyone from the group needs audio related gear I can sell you software and hardware for %10 above cost as a "Pro Discount" though a purchase at my store. Contact me direct: laboratory@l-s-d.info)

I'm thinking about getting an 8886 and one of its main uses will be as a mobile audio/sampler workstation. I mentioned the USB devices in the other thread. One of the main things I need is Gigastudio GSIF drivers. I've heard that the RME cards are great, but they're pretty expensive. I've also been looking at the Echo Layla 24, have you used either the RME or the Layla with a laptop yet? I had an Echo card in a workstation a while back and I was happy with it.

The thing I like about the USB devices like the Tascam US-428 is that they're control surfaces also. Are there any USB 2.0 devices out there yet?

Thanks,
Mike

No, OS X is not ready for audio yet, in my mind. Untill all the plug-ins and
drivers are out its just one big beta test! Anyway I use Digital Perfomer
and Logic on my Mac.

The OB12 isn't that special. I owned one for about a month then sold it. I have a Virus KB, MicroQ, and Nord Modular so it didn't even come close to justify keeping. It was rather bland and lifeless. It would be a good controller or first VA but not worth the trouble of finding one. I got my MicroQ for $450 which is a way better buy!

Isn't there supposedly a new version of the virus indigo coming out?

The Indigo "2" is out featuring the Virus "C" engine and upgraded with semi-weighted keys like those on the Virus KB, Novation Super Nova and Kawai K5000S. Check out http://www.access-music.de/products....roduct=indigo2

Headphone noise

Since most of the audiophiles have seemed to post on this thread I figured I'd ask one question I haven't found posted yet. How much noise is there in the headphone output? I just ordered my 8886 yesterday because my previous sager died the other day (after 2 years of working wonderfully). But my other sager had a horrible buzz in the headphones. I was just hopeing and hopeing that this laptop doesn't! I'm also into music production and use cubase sx and reason. I sometimes would work on things in reason on my other sager with my headphone and by the time I was done I'd have a HUGE headache from all the hard drive and dvd noise injected into the audio. Anyhow how does the 8886 headphone output sound with the hard drive and fans running? Especially at lower volumes?

You need one of these for low latency, zero noise and better asio drivers

Right on... thanks... and only $99. Can't beat that!
I agree, for $99 the Echo card looks like its perfect if you want to use your laptop as a soft synth or sampler. It even has GSIF drivers for Gigastudio. It doesn't have audio inputs though, so you cant record with it.

djnetwork... I was just wondering, how did you old Sager die? Like what happened to it? Glad to hear it worked wonderfully for two years! And glad to see you're getting help at the forums :-) Best of luck to you!
