Alienware has it wrong.

On the Alienware web in the Sentia section they have a "Comparisons" page in which they compare the Sentia to a Dell 700m. In the section that compares the hard drives they show dell as having a 7200rpm drive available for the 700m when in fact Dell does NOT offer a 7200rpm drive for the 700m, only a 4200rpm drive. This is a big performance advantage for the Sentia and you would think that a company that prides itself, no, stakes its reputation on having the highest performance products available that they would get this right. I have emailed their webmaster and support but they have not changed the site.

Here is the "Comparisons" page on the Alienware site:

And here is the Dell page that shows the drives available for their laptops:

good catch. You are correct. Dell does not offer a 7200 rpm drive for the 700M.

Good catch. I didn't see the error, and I was trying to decide between the two. I did go for the Sentia.

they fixed it now.
Man o man if the 100gig was 5400 id be buying one 2night. if it was 7000 id wouldnt be writing this id be getting my credit card out

I'll admit to being tempted to get the 100gig drive but not at 4200rpm, if it was 5400 I would.

Duke : I do know what its like to have a 4200rpm drive, my current lappy has one, but it was one of the first 80gig dirves in the 2.5"

My past three laptops had 4200rpm drives (Sony XG500, IBM TP 240, Sony 505s). And that was back in 1999-2001.

Cool. It has been fixed.

You'd think I would at least get a "Thank You" reply to my emails to them. Or even better, rush my Sentia through production!

I have been a bit more proactive and sent the following email to sales, webmaster, and support. I replied using the reply I got from support to my orginal one pointing out the error. It as also cc'd to sales and webmaster.

--------

I see that Alienware has made the correction to the web site regarding the lack of 7200rpm drive for the dell 700m that I brought to Alienware's attention in my previous email. As you know there is a significant performance difference between a 4200rpm drive and a 7200rpm drive so this should sway a few people your way who are sitting on the fence between the two systems and help sell a few more Sentias.

I am sure that the Alienware staff is currently trying to come up with the appropriate gesture of thanks for my help in pointing out this mistake and consequently selling more Sentias, so once again I will help the Alienware Corporation out by suggesting the following gestures of gratitude:

1) Expedite my Sentia through the production phase (currently Phase 5)

2) Processor upgrade to 2.0Ghz

3) Alienware® Premium Messenger Case

I am of course open to any other suggestions the Alienware staffs deems appropriate, these were just ones that came to mind.

I look forward to your response.
