:-) Someone asked him that in another thread... He has a remote controlled racecar or something that is gas powered? Lol, I'm sure he'll explain it better, lol, all I know is that it was sweet :-)

It WAS sweet
Yeah it WAS sweet in the past tense.Thats because its gone now - sold it for 600 bucks and am now ready to load up the 5660.
Which begs the question - I am not totally into cpu hunting and therefore cannot predict the market.
If you had the money would you get 2.4Ghz and 1GB Ram now and later upgrade to 2.8Ghz
(or)
Would you get 2.8Ghz AND the 1GB Ram
(or)
Would you just keep 2.4Ghz and 512MB Ram
I want to know if there is tremendous performance diff between 2.4 and 2.8 to the extent that it is visible in Games fps.
Will the 1GB Ram have a more positive effect than the 2.8 CPU??
Quick reply needed because i'm almost ready to hit the submit button....

More RAM will always win out over faster CPU in my book. I have a P-III 733MHz with 768MB RAM and it runs GREAT!!! I would like a faster CPU, but I am not complaining. I do video editing from my Sony DCR-TRV340 via IEEE connection with no problems.
I know it is the RAM that allows me to do all that. When I only had 256MB RAM, it ran like a dog...
I don't know if there is a HUGE difference between the 2.4 and 2.8GHZ, but think of it this way, would you want a 400MHz computer or a 800MHz computer? Big difference there. You could still work with a 800MHz today, but a 400MHz won't run most programs or games...
I am sure someone here is more knowledgable on the CPU factor though, but if it were me, I would go slower CPU, more RAM.

Interesting...
Yeah...I think 2.4 is the way to go - that way I can buy the 2.8 when its price comes down to reasonable levels...I am just hoping that 2.4 will not be too low to play DOOM 3
Does anyone feel the 5660 will not be good enough to play DOOM 3 or Splinter Cell when they release?? I really want to play these games and if I have to - I will buy the faster CPU..

Hey beebster83,
Recently placed my order for an 8886 and your review made me feel a lot more comfortable with parting with the money.
Just got a quick tip for ya to do with defragging. If you defrag with processes running the area on disk where they are cannot be defragged or moved. It's like, for example, trying to cut a MS Word document to a different drive while editing it, you get a write disabled.
Or at least thats wqhat I learned back when I started using computers on 95... and I am guessing its a fundamental unless XP has found a way to get round it.
Hope this helps, cause chances are, the programs you want to run faster, are the programs you are running.

Cheers.
Oh, lol, yes, I realize that. Thank you for the information :-) The reason I am not worried about it is because there are two hard drives on the 8886 I had, so I used things on one hard drive while defraging the other hard drive, and vice versa. It worked quite well :-) You can also look at the report when the defrag is over to see what the report shows as far as fragmentation after the fact. Glad to hear the review was beneficial!
