Dell Modem Slow--Please Help!

Hi, I'm glad I found your forum.

I am having problems with my Dell Inspiron 2500 modem and I believe others are too. After a couple of years it suddenly became very, very slow; so slow it is hard to use. Another computer using the exact same phone lines is twice as fast. Here is a thread on the dell "community forum" (pretty worthless) for anyone interested:

I am told it is a "soft modem" and the problem is well known. Still what can you do about it? Support from Dell has been virtually nonexistent.

No idea... are other programs running slower as well?

How about the usual troubleshooting? Remove the modem software, then its drivers via Device Manager, install the latest version from Dell's website, etc.

Thanks. It has been done.

I realize it is kind of long because others have chimed in with the same problem, but the link on the Dell forum explains it.

From what I've learned, calling "Dell India" is relatively pointless. So what does one do about a problem with a Dell computer?

Call Dell anyhow. It isn't pointless to call them; it just takes a little more time and patience. But if you're stuck, you're stuck. Call them and see how it goes.
