m6811 problems

hey all i just bought the m6811 from bb about a week ago and other than the hinge is cracked already i was liking the laptop. the other day i installed suse pro 64 bit and since then even in windows my lcd is really dark does anyone know why? also suse was running like absolute **** so also has anyone got a 64 bit version of linux one these laptops without having problems? thanks for any help

Fn+F8 to brighten, FN+F7 to dim. For some reason, when starting the Linux kernels I have fooled with on my notebook, they always knock the LCD to it's dimmest setting. Gentoo seems to work very well for me. Keep in mind, you will have no wireless with 64-bit windows or Linux right now. Broadcom has dropped the ball on driver support.

My SuSE and Fedora installs ran like total a&* until I entered the 'acpi=off' argument in the kernel boot command line in Grub. Worked like a charm after that with a little manual tweaking of IRQs and hardware configuration.

The no wireless support is a real downer of course.

I installed fedora, suse, and ubuntu x86_64 without any problems. All ran fine. No slow down. Have same issue with dimmed screen when any of these linux distros starts, but fn+f8 works well. I have m6805 with M6811 BIOS. There is other thread who installed suse 64-bit on m6811. He didn't have any problems either. One thing about suse 64-bit, I had to tweak acpi scheme to work properly.
If you don't want to go through this and Gentoo is too hard for you to install, then go with Fedora 64-bit.

To gain wireless support and not require the ACPI=no argument when installing linux you need to flash your Bios to the M6811s bios.

how do you get wireless support with M6811 bios? Last time I checked Broadcom wireless card doesn't have a linux driver (x86_64).

Wireless will work in 32 bit linux kernels, but not 64-bit

Is it possible to get the source for the driver and recomile it to work with 64bit kernels?
