Installing Windows 2000 on a 4750-C?

Hiya All,

I am going to order my Sager 4750-C - 17" wsxga Mobility Radeon 9700 w/128MB, AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Processor, 1GIG 400MHz DDR RAM, 60GB 7200rpm Hard Drive, Combo 8X DVD / 24x10x24 CD-RW Drive, AC Adapter, Targus Backpack, No Operating System, Smart Li-Ion Battery, One Year Warranty, Built-In 802.11g [108Mbps TURBO] Wireless Module, Internal 4-in-1 Card Reader.

My Question is that, will I be able to successfully install Windows 2000 and operate the laptop as normal as Windows XP. Will I encounter any sort of problems if I do this? Driver issues and etc? Please help thanks.

certainly. It should work fine. However, w2k will not down clock your processor like xp does. YOu should dl powernow! from AMD's website and it should work fine. Other than that, i cant think of anything that would negatively affect the performance of the lappy in w2k. The instructional booklet that youwill get with the lappy includes instructions for installation of everything for xp and w2k. Congrats! you'lll like it alot. If you end up having heat troubles with it, check out the new firmware that sager just released. It will help.

Well I've read a lot of stuff that says games won't run as well in 2k ... just a thought if that is a concern of yours.

Actually, I've read the opposite, especially about WinXP's SP2. It seems to screw up a lot stuff.

Personally, I've never had a problem running any games under W2k. Guess it just depends on what games you play...

Don't believe that Win2K is a supported O/S. It might work; however, if it doesn't - don't blame Sager.

Windows XP = Windows 2000 with a fancy GUI

It'll run games just as good.

XP is way diifferent from W2K. W2K was built on the NT engine and XP was a new engine.
Actually, not really.

Both are based of the NT-style "engine" - ie. they're both based of the Win32 core with minimal Win16 bits.

There are some kernel differences, but not enough to say it's a completely different "engine".

Thanks for the help you guys. I will install W2K, because I prefer that over XP. Thanks again.

the manual that came with my 4750 included setup instructions for w2k right alongside xp. If the computer didnt support it, why would they include it in their manual?

exactly wbeck. win2k will work just fine with the 4750.

Does Windows 2000 support USB 2.0?

4750 and win2k

I run a 4750 3700+ and had initial locking up problems when I installed AMD Powernow. My solution was to uninstall powernow (assuming you have installed it) and I installed CrystalCPUID and set the unclock and voltage settings myself.
