I may not look or act like it (publicly), but I'm pretty much a nerd on the inside.
I was def. a nerd when I was young (was really into computers, loved Star Wars, collected comic books, etc). Even though I feel that I have matured much since then and had gone through alot of growing up, I'm still a nerd on the inside.
Only a small percentage of my friends are also nerdy, and they dont "look" like a nerd either. Some of them even deny their past "nerd heritage." But I think it would be great that society would not view intelligence as a disease.

So far I see a more gradual acceptance of being abit on the geeky side. Recently here in the Chicago newspaper 'Red Eye' there was an article on how geekyness doesnt have to be an 'in the closet' matter anymore.
