8886V Whose got the best price?

Hello,

I've finally decided to purchase the Sager 8886-V and want to get the best price. So far I've seen that many of the people here have purchased from PC Torque and also that there are a lot of kids here with rich parents. (nothing wrong with that, I just had to mow lawns for an entire summer to buy my amiga 500 when I was growing up)

My question is --- Which company is offers the best price/features?

PC Torque has the 8886-V listed at $2,402.00 with a 40GB HD.
discountlaptops.com has the 8886-V listed at $2460 also with a 60GB drive...
qsoft.com $2,575.00 40GB drive..
miradex.com $2,599 60GB drive.

(all of the above are the same specifications from what I can tell except for the HD. It appears that a lot was made with the 40GB drive standard and then a newer lot was shipped with the 60GB drives?? probably after october)

Which reseller is the best price to feature to service? Am I missing any resellers? Anyone want to give me a deal? And More Importantly.... Will prices drop after christmas?

I understand that the 8886 can use the 3.0Ghz non-hyperthreading chip without modifications, and this is something I want to upgrade later on (hopefully with hyperthreading). Has anyone been able to upgrade to more then 1GB?

Thanks,
Opus

Well, powernotebooks.com offers it w/40 GB HDD for $2480...

I looked at the qsoft offering - it says the speeds of the combo drive are 8x/4x4x24x, and something seems pretty funny about that, if you ask me. Of course, it would be much better to ask them.

Also, given the lack of options they provide in terms of customization, I'd be a little worried about service...

I gave up on looking at the miradex site, because it just wouldn't seem to load.

PCT right here probably has the best price you'll find anywhere, and I understand the service is no slouch, either.

As far as price drops after X-mas, aren't things as expensive as this, given that they're also based on the latest technology, kind of outside the usual X-mas economic cycles? I could be wrong, easily, but still...

Another thing to consider when looking at a base price offered by a reseller is how much it is actaually going to cost once you add all the addons you might want.(HD,CPU,RAM Extra battery,Warranty etc.)The lowest price for an all frills included Sager that I am aware of is PCtorque, next best is Powernotebooks .com.Both appear to have excellent service and support!

Sorry about that. Sager just made the 60GB hard drive standard and we hadn't noted that. I just adjusted the price for the change, but kept the 40GB as default and it's $50 less than when you last saw it.

Keep in mind, the prices you quoted from some of those places is their cash only price. The price on our site now is $2402 and $2346.75 with the cash discount and the 40GB drive.

Nobody has been past 1GHZ of RAM that I know of yet. I don't believe the 200 pin sodimm is out in anything bigger than 512MB on the market yet.

PCTorque is the best with prices anywhere. I looked and looked and looked through every prostar and sager reseller (lol, I looked at alienware, but only to get a laugh out of it). And guess what, lol, when I did find one lower price (by a few dollars), Adam made a change on the site that put their price lower by $40 or so again. Since then, no one comes close. Not to mention his service is just spectacular. I don't even own one and many of the people on this forum bought one from other resellers and he's still giving everyone support and helping out with anything he has time for... These forums are a testament to that. Not to mention the people here are great... regardless of where you buy from, you'll be helped here. Good luck with your decision!
