Please post here, and let me know if anyone else have been having problems with their DVD+RW/Optical drives ejecting. Mine will randomly not "Eject" no matter what I do, until the whole computer is rebooted. I read some others were having this problem as well, and wanted to see if it was universal. I see another call to Dell in my near future.

I've seen a problem like this with a certain cd recording program causing it .. But for the life of me I can't remember which one it was ..

OK. I hope this works, but I've gone into MSConfig configurations, and disabled a bunch of useless DVD/CD related background processes/programs that may be locking this up (i.e. itunes, quicktime, sonic, nero, etc..."helpers"). I think these background programs only serve to keep a small program running so that it opens a few seconds faster when I really want to use them. Hopefully disabling these processes will do the trick.

Hey Govt, I dont know whats wrong with your DVD burner, but could you tell me if the 700M uses a standard modular bay design (and would therefore accept a NEC-ND6500 or something purchased seperately).

couldn't tell you, as I don't have a standard modular drive to try and squeeze in there.

ok....I also tried turning "autorun" off via registry editor. I think this might have finally done the trick. I'll report back in a few days to let you guys know if this is indeed the trick.

I don't think it's a hardware issue, as I've read that a few other laptops experience this problem as well. I think it's a combination of some background programs that's locking it up somehow. I disabled "autoplay" in the registry, and it seems to have helped. I haven't had a lock up since.

try going into safemode and testing the eject. also did you try using the FN+F10?
Download Dell Quickset program from the Dell Downloads section for your model. FN+F10 ejects the CD.

From a thread on Dell's community forum, it seems that the Sonic DLA application is latching the optical drive door and not allowing it to eject. Right click on the optical driver icon in My Computer, select Properties and then the DLA tab. Disable DLA. DLA allows you to format CDs and use them as "floppy drives". This doesn't affect Sonic's burning capabilities.

I knew it was some software, or program locking it up! Thanks! I just did this, and haven't had any problems since. Everyone should do this to prevent any future problems.

oh...and HERE is the link to that thread on Dell forums that he's referring to. Seems to be dead on.
