Exactly how much 'faster' will the 533 MHz FSB be compared to the 400 MHz FSB?

I would say probably about 133 MHz on the FSB.

it will probably be about the same speed initially, but a faster FSB allows for higher overall clock rates, so it shouldn't be long befor we see 2.4 ghz PM's (755's have already been overclocked there.)

So there wouldnt be much of a performance increase on a 1.8GHz/400MHz compared to a 1.8GHz/533MHz

You'll see an increase. You will be able to use faster memory anyways.

ah! exellent... I just read somewhere that the Centrino performs at 600 MHz while on battery power... is this true?

Yea, thats part of the Speedstep feature that increases battery life. There's no need to operate at 1.5-2.0ghz when you're only using excel or outlook.

Will the CPU increase to 1.5GHz-2.0 if I need the power... for example... by playing a game on an airplane or something like that?
Yes....you can either set it to full power (when on battery) which will play the game but drain power relatively quickly or you can set it to "Dynamic Switching" which will use the extra power only when you need it.

What??? I need all the CPU power I need so my mail would display that 0.0002 seconds faster!

Sigh - sorry, it's early in the morning - I couldn't resist.
