Modem/dialup compatability problem??

I have been having intermittent problems with my ISP. I can connect well occasionally and other times not. I get port 25 and port 110 errors. My ISP keeps telling me there is a problem with my computer modem and makes me reboot when I can't get connected. And especially if after the reboot there is a connection made he then says ....I told you that there is a problem with your computer. I have had it checked out by a tech and the modem is fine. I even had to supply details to my ISP who told me that some individuals have had problems and his server installed "firmware" at their end to resolve the issues. He didn't elaborate on the computer or the exact nature of the problem.
The info that I provided to the ISP is that my computer is a 2410 satellite notebook, pentium 4, mobile processor, XP, Agere modem number
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2486&SUBSYS_00011179&REV_02\3&\6IAAAOI&O&FE

Has anyone had this sort of problem....if so I would appreciate your comments or suggestions. i have had some comments regarding problems between v92 modems and v90. Help if you can!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since your machine is automatically rebooting it must be blue screening once your connected.
The best thing to do is right click on my computer
go to properties
Click on the Advanced tab
Look for the last section called start up and recover and click the advanced box.
now look for a tick box named automatically reboot.
untick that box and reboot the machine and dial back up onto the net.

if it performs the same issue your machine will come up with a blue screen instead of just rebooting. make sure you take note on whats displayed on the blue screen as these are error codes that will help track down the problem.

Hi thankyou for the reply. I hope that I did not mislead in my explanation. The computer does not automatically reboot, I go back and reboot it myself which is done at the request of the ISP who has told me that this often remedies these problems.
And when I do this and attempt to reconnect to the dial up and it works, the ISP always says "see there is something wrong with your computer."
I hope that the same member sees this and is able to tell me if his suggestion still applies or whether the member was under the impression that my computer reboots automatically on its own. Thankyou. And if anyone else has suggestions or comments I would appreciate them very much

Ah yeah sorry i thought the machine was automatically rebooting.
The only thing i can think of is software running the background or a vrius, have you tried a rebuild?

have a look at this site
http://www.modemsite.com/56k/dunserror.asp
710 - Serial overrun errors were detected while communicating with your modem.

Modem/dialup compatability problem??

This is an excellent site for error codes. I have been having to forward the numbers to the ISP and have tried surfing the net for them and some of the sites lack the codes or give scant description of what the number means. As I continue to track my problems I will make use of this site to try to interpret what is going on consistently and intermittently.
Once I have accumulated a new list of errors I intend to e-mail this site to my ISP. He uses a site which he has given me but it is not nearly as good as the one you provided to me.
I hope that my persistence with this will bring some resolution to this quandry soon. Thankyou

Check your telephone inside wiring.
I recenty had a partial short circuit
that was causing problems, It have much
more reliable connection now.
I have also had problems with modems that
slow down and cause problems.
