Hi i just got this Compaq presario 12XL300 from a friend, im only using this laptop for writing up word doc's and surfing the web and other little stuff. i would like to add a bigger hard drive to it , maybe like a 20gb and up i am running window xp. I would like to spend as little money as possible on this laptop so , if some can just tell me what type or kind or hard drive would tfit this model and where to buy one . i preferred a use one to save a little money.

can someone tell me the specs for this laptop. i would like to upgrade from 128mb of ram to at least 256mb can you give me info on that also

thanks.

For RAM you can just get a PC100/133 SO-Dimm

If you say it has 128MB and no upgrades most likely the 128MB will be built in so you can just add another chip.

I put a 256MB Kingston PC133 So-Dimm into mine (12XL223) and it works just fine (i had 64MB built in so i now have 320MB).

As for laptop, yes you can get that one but any drive that fits that form factor will be fine so you aren't limited to just that 12GB one.

It's very easy to take apart, just remove the 4 screws from the front and the palmrest pops off and you can see the hard drive and take it out if you feel confident to see the form factor.
