That laptop looks strikingly similar to the new widescreen Sager laptop coming out (4060?).

They mean that the "Hyperthreading" acts like "dual" processors. Atleast, that's what I would think.

If not, I am sure you could cook up a nice meal on the bottom of that laptop, with how hot it would be.

Oh yeah, sales gimmicks at it's best

No ways they are going to jam 2 complete HT processors into a laptop, the heat would melt right through the case! Not to mention, I don't even know of a consumer motherboard that supports dual HT processors, which would give you in essence 4 processors!
either that or the idiots selling ti think there are realy 2 processors in it. That definitly has to be the same thing as the 4760. Clevo is probably selling it to other companies besides sager. Either that or their using the same case

Yes, that's the soon to be released Sager in another skin. Them writing that it's a dual 3.06 means... well, take a guess.

I think we can one up them by advertising it as "desktop AND wife replaceable". "All the power of a desktop and will bear your children".

Or we could start guessing what laptops will be like 3 years from now, put a price tag on them and offer them as pre-orders to hype things up a bit for pctorque .

the price of $3k for a laptop if it did have dual 3.06 ghz with HT is not bad at all seeing as alienware wants to charge $3200 for one processor of that speed. But the fact remains that they are wrong and if they advertise a laptop that far out of whack, you're and idiot to buy anything from them.

Yeah they obviously are another company using clevo as their odm.. check out their laptops.. A 888x by any other name is still an 888x

In order for it to have dual 3 ghz processors it would have to use intel's Xeon processor. A Xeon runs about $750 a piece. That would mean that they would have to spend $1500 soley on the processor. A laptop with that setup would run way past $3000. I'd love to see one though.

Yeah the prices surprized me.... the 1 their 888x model had a price of 4995 listed, at least from what i saw.. and raid.. thought somebody was offering the 8890 already but it had the 9000 as the video card and no mention of 800 mhz bus.

What is avid DV express? is it actually a $2000 dollar piece of software???
Ohh well definately not buying from them..

Hi,

The P4 can be used for a dual CPU setup, but I don't think it has any hardware support for multiprocessing. Troll through Intel's web site for the details.

The real problem with dual CPUs is power. People grumble now about the 120 Watt power brick. What would they say about a 250 Watt power brick?

This computer is not for consumers, or the average consumer. In case you didn't notice, or didn't check out the link, they are selling computer systems aimed at the video professional. These people work for companies that don't think twice about buying a $20,000 computer. The type of people buying these computers don't care so much about design or video card performance (although why they don't offer it with the 9000 FireGL boggles me) but they do care about hard drive performance (notice the RAID setups) and processing power. Time is money in this business and time saved is money saved.

Now a Dual P4 setup in a laptop isn't for 99% of people out there. But check this out, it's fast and it weighs less than 8 or 9 lbs., easy enough to carry around, but it probably drains too much power to be considered portable. Some configurations come with a battery pack though.

But I doubt the laptop referenced has anything more that a single HT processor.. a laptop would still need massive cooling for 2 seperate processors not to mention the power requirements. I dont think it's feasible or possible to put dual processors in a laptop right now.. even if the laptop is just made to be totally a desktop replacement and never used away from power...

I did some purchasing for our high school video broadcasting program and we bought quite a bit of stuff from 1Beyond. To the average computer user, or even those of you who are really into the tech area, video is a whole other world as far as computer construction. An earlier poster was right that you do look into your hard drives keeping up with spooling video streams especially when your system has to re-encode that video and send it back out again as a live web stream. I must say that their systems are second to none and you get what you pay for.

I'd be interested in seeing how they figured out the cooling issues with that laptop. It's 1.4" thick, not a lot of room in there. Their website is a bit lacking in details about it, but I dont' doubt the authenticity.
