just got my 9100 and I love it!! you guys seem to be gamers and could chime in here. What do you think would be the best upgrade choice for me:

currently i have 512 megs of DDR in it, should I go with 1 Gig of Corsair XMS combined with a 7200 Hitachi HD from newegg OR

get the 9800 card from Dell?

Currently running 512 DDR, 5400 rpm drive and 9700 Radeon. I can afford to do one or the other, not all (I wish). Thanks for the input!

I don't have a dell, but I would say depending on how much memory your MR9700 has vs. how much memory the MR9800 has would determine what to do. Also, not being too familiar with the MR9800, I would tend to believe that going from a 128mb 9700 to a 128mb 9800 wouldn't give a huge boost in performance, so I'd go with the memory and hard drive. However, if it's going from a 64mb 9700 to say a 256mb 9800, i'd think the video card would be the better upgrade for now.

Thanks for the input guys, I went with the 9800 upgrade instead. The 4 pixel pipeline of the 9700 is a huge bottleneck and even if I double the ram, that still exists. So I figured why not open her up and put the 9800 in, THEN upgrade that other stuff.

BTW: LOVE that sig! 4 MORE YEARS!!

You've just got your 9100 and already think of upgrade? Why not just return it and order another configuration? Why pay twice for video - but not get 9800 in the first place?

Because I got the most sick deal ever. Found it refurbished, paid $1500 for it, it had the WUXGA screen listed twice. I called, they refunded $400 for the screen.

oh and the system specs are:
P4 3.2
512 DDR
60 gig 5400
128 9700
1450 wireless
WUXGA
24x CD-RW/DVD

I love Dell

you did good. if you game, get the 9800 first and foremost. then, as you can, upgrade the mem then the HD. If you do a lot of office type work, get the HD before the mem. It'll make a diff when you're opening/closing, manipulating data, etc., loading games, yada yada.

mem will mean less hard drive cache reads and the like.
