Desktop issues, harddrive?

Thread Starter
This happens on my old desktop:

After about an hour of running a program I hear a "blink-blonk" sound coming from the back of my computer. At that point I can no longer do anything other then move the mouse around the screen. Then the mouse freezes and I have to restart. I rebooted last night, and got a message saying that the main drive had failed. I restarted and everything seemed fine for an hour or so, then the noise started and my screen froze. Any ideas of what might be wrong and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance,

Try reseating the cables from the hard disk to the motherboard.

It might be a result of heat, make sure that all of the case and CPU fans are in good working order. If all that is fine then unplug the power to the computer and press the power button a few times the plug it back in and restart.

Is the hard drive itself making the noise? If so, you should see if your able to enable SMART (Self-monitoring and reporting technology) for your hard drive. I know that every time my hard drive was near death, SMART gave me forward notice.
