AMD goes mobile at 90nm with Athlon 3000+

Thread Starter
I didn't see it mentioned anywhere but I figured this article might interest people. Maybe it won't be too long before Sager does it.

awesome, I knew AMD would have some good mobiles out soon
post #3 of 20
wow. i'd expect acer to jump right on the bandwagon here. Sager shouldn't be far behind. I'd like to see a Sager Thin&Light Athlon64 system

I would hope that this 90nm would just pop into the current 4750 with no problems.
it probably would "pop" right in perfectly well. The question is whether or not the bios would work properly with it. But, right on that register article was another link to the answer of a question being asked about alot: AMD & PCI-E. Check it out!

yipee! more fuel for the propaganda bandwagon!
heee hawww!

spread those rumors!

What's lighter slimmer, and has decent battery life for a dtr. You got it a 4750.

I think our processors are 130nm, not 90 = would not fit in. I'm not positive however, I'll check later if I get time.
The chip is 90nm, but the socket is exactly the same: 754. Except possible BIOS updates, it's just plug-n-play.
yeah the 90nm thing only matters at the microscopic level, the chips are close to the same size and use the same socket
post #12 of 20
Ok, I thought they were using diff sockets (7.. vs 9..). My bad.
They don't mention power consumption but they do state the chip is ideal for "thin and light" notebooks...

I'm crossing my fingers that we'll see a 3790 version with one of those popped in.
(obviously a diff mobo is required so maybe 3890?).

It is a 35W TDP chip.
35W is pretty decent compared to the DTR A64!

A64 LV Lancaster will only use 25W at MAX performance! Due out end of year. 2005 will be interestning.
How does 25W (or 35W?) compare with the dothans?
I'm pretty sure Banias (the first Centrinos) are 24.5W, while Dothan's are 21W. There are also ultra low power models of Dothans using only 5W!! But those only are out up to 1.1ghz
post #18 of 20
yeah, my friend has a 10" fujtisu p7000 something and it has the 1.1 Ghz proc. It gets something like 8 hours on its little 6-cell (I think)
1.1ghz isn't all that bad either. I mean, to put it in perspective for a Centrino around 1.1ghz you're getting performance around a 2ghz P4 or higher. Except in this case you're getting 8 hours of battery life on a tiny battery, instead of less than 1 on a huge battery with a P4.

exactly, he can even play some newer games like Rome TW on that 1.1 proc and integrated intel graphics.
