This happened really suddenly, after a reboot.
My DVD-RW (Toshiba SD-R6112) isn't showing up in My Computer (although it recieves power, and will boot to the Windows XP CD).
In Device Manager, its error reads,
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.
Uninstalling the device / driver and redetecting devices / rebooting doesn't change the situation. The driver won't 'roll back'. According to Toshiba's website, their CD/DVD drives don't need drivers anyway.
Weirdly, also, in Device Manager, under "Other Devices," "Multimedia Controller" and "Multimedia Video Controller" are both listed as having errors too:
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.
Uninstalling these devices / drivers and redetecting / rebooting does nothing. "Reinstalling" the drivers proves impossible since all the drivers are on my Sager CD or the Win XP CD. Gah.
Physically removing the DVD drive, rebooting without it, then replacing it, doesn't resolve the situation...
Erm. Any help?
8890-V, Win XP SP2.
