For i700m if you are planning to upgrade RAM yourself should you order 256 from Dell?

No, you will pay about 30% more through dell. Go to crucial.com, enter in your computer information, it will provide you with the exact specifications of the type of memory you need.

Then, go to newegg.com, zipzoomfly.com, crucial.com, ebay etc and price your ram out at these places. It will be considerably cheaper. Crucial, Micron, Samsung, Kingston are all good brands. Other people may offer more suggestions.

How much memory, total are you looking to have in your computer?

Cheapest is 512mb of Twinmos sticks at $84 shipped each. You can get 1gb for $168 shipped (don't forget to get the famous Newegg freebies). I hope this helps.

oh...also, if you're getting 1gb, and you don't have a 512mb stick already installed (from dell), you will need to take your keyboard off. One of the memory sockets is hidden under there.
