Why doesn't my 4750 run at 800 mhz?

Why does my laptop always run at 2.33ghz? Even when I'm idling it runs at full throttle which is fine and all but when I'm sitting outside or working portable it KILLS my battery more than it really should. I'm going to buy another battery just because I love my "Lappy" too much to not take it outside with me but I don't need it to run at 2.33ghz. Help?

didja install the amd processor driver? and if you did, did you check to see in your control panel>power options to see if portable/laptop was selected. If "always on" or "desktop" is selected, it will run at full throttle.

what wbeck said. The Athlon will only use powernow under certain power schemes (laptop/portable and max battery).

Opposite problem

I have the exact opposite problem. Mine says 800MHz. I've installed Speed Switch and it reports 2.2GHz, but under My Computer > Properties and System Info, it still says 800MHz.

Probably it is dynamically switching between the two. When Sys Info checks it, it is at 800 and when Speed Switch checks it, it is at 2.2 ghz.
