The 8887 now comes with the 15.7" LCD only.

Whats happening to all the screens?
Wishful thinking would be that a CASV display is in the works...
hmm.. that would make me think that the 8890 will have a different 16.1" screen then..

I wish I could get my 8887 16.1" screeen replaced with a newer one.. if one is coming out. I'm happy as-is, but better contrast and color is also a plus.

Guess I'm a wishful thinker, too.

Ouch, that can't be good for sales...
The two most popular screens on the two most popular laptops beings sold by Sager are gone. Now what? I wonder what's going on....

BTW hayesb2, have you actually seen a 5670 Wide-angles screen? I'd like to get a side-by-side comparison between the 5670 screen with a CASV display, just out of curiosity (CASV too expensive to justify)

dam, hope that doesn't carry into 8890.
that would send me to... Sony? please, god, no...

Actually, I just received a new 8887 machine about a week ago, and the 16.1" UXGA display on it was much better than the previous displays I received on one back in February and May. The biggest key was that the color and contrast were very rich and accurate all at default settings (with accurate brightness). There was no need to mess with the ATI Color tab in the ATI display properties (Desktop Brightness). In fact, you should never have to touch that with an LCD panel and is a frustrating, temporary "work-around" in my opinion.

I am not sure the cause (different video BIOS or different panels), but this latest 8887 with the 16.1" UXGA is one of the best LCD's I have every used in a notebook even when compared to 2 previous 8887 16.1" UXGA panels that I received (returned the second machine from May after receiving the latest one).

No big surprise there. I love my 8887, but I can say without hesitation, my 16.1 sux. devoid of proper color with a dark area across the bottom of the screen. I dont know if I should try to get sager to replace it with a 15.7 or wait and see what they offer in the 16.1 size for the new models.

Again, I love my laptop - the screen is huge, which is the best thing I can say. I feel bummed when my friend with his 3 year old dell pops up his 15ish inch screen and the colors are vivid and even, unlike my state of the art machine. Its the only thing I have bad to say about it, unfortunately its a big thing.

And, I just read DWStricklands post... I should have read that first, I guess

Adam, im in St. pete. What are the odds of getting a swap out over at your place? I use my machine for work every day and take it with me to on-site service calls at least twice a day - cant be without it.

No I havent seen the 5670 Wide-angle display. I would love to get it side by side the Tosh CASV screen. I have however seen other 1600x1200 screens (old Tosh, Dell, etc) and in my opinion they were all inferior to the CASV screen. Personally, the screen is one of the highest influences for me when choosing my next laptop. I would sacrifice power for a better screen which is why I am hoping Sager offers the CASV.

5680 + CASV = $$$$$$

It's only available now with a 15.7"? That doesn't make any sense... unless you consider there prepping now for the 8890 16.1" new screen. That would make sense...

You'll notice Sony quit selling it also (they were using the same LCD). We don't know but Hitachi might not make any more. Don't read into it to avoid rumors.

Adam, can you verify DWStricklands observation about a newer, better LCD for the 8887 being used as of late...before this shortage now?

If its the same as the Sony, I for sure got a lemon.

Again, I have to say how much I love this laptop. This is in no way a bash session. Im just not impressed with the screen. In all fairness, Sager offered me an RMA although they didnt say they would replace the screen for sure - I just dont have the time to send it in, not really their fault.

I look forward to upgrading to the 800 FSB setup eventually, but I really would like to do something about the LCD if im going to continue to invest in the 8887.

Actually, you can still get the 16.1" UXGA display with the Sony GRT model. However, you do have to do a custom configure.

However, it might just be an extended shortage. Clevo still lists the 888ES (Sager 8887) as having both a 16.1" UXGA and 16.1" SXGA+ (this one was never used by Sager or any other manufacturer from what I have noticed).

For 100%, I can say that the the 16.1" UXGA display I received this past week on the 8887 was of much better contrast, color richness, and default brightness than the previous 2 displays I had received with this machine.

lol 15.7 inch screen?

Hmmm the 5670 doesnt have that kind of screen right? So give us some specs on this new (or old) screen adam. Also wonder what was the cause was for pulling down the sager 16.1 screens
post #17 of 40
the 15.7" screen now being offered is SXGA, 1280x1024

basically it is becoming hard for anyone to get these screens in large quantities. i was told 1-1.5 months till the production is sorted out - of course it could be less, could be more.

needless to say this comes at a bad time bc laptop sales tend to go up in the summer

My thinking is that Sager is just depleting it's inventory of old models to make room for the new.
Soo if i was planning on getting a 16.1 8887 does that mean i should order now, or that its too late and they are already gone?
yeah I'm wondering that too.

also, I ordered mine on the 8th of June, will I still get mine with the UXGA?
