ok i dont know what to do, i hope someone can help me. ok so all of the sudden my computer decides to move amazingly slow. its like if i do a task (i dont know like opening IE or seaching through my computer) the whole screen will freeze. not for like a few seconds but for like minutes on end then it would start working again. during this time i can move the mouse but ctrl alt delete wont work and neither will anything else. i dont know if its a virus or what. i tried restoring the computer to a few days ago, but restoration wont complete, it says it failed even after numerous tries. i dont know what else to do. anyone have any suggestions?

Run an online virus checker. worst case, run the Acer restore CD to rebuild the system and do not install SP2

yea i tried to do system restore but it said it failed to do it, numerous times i did it too. now if i run this restore cd will i lose everything? i dont have anything that i absolutley need to keep. i can reinstall the games and such. i think this is from the "best friends" viruse which i got but thought i got rid of it. i think its sort of the aftermath of it.

Is your CPU activity pegged to 99% when you're not even doing anything? I had that problem and there was an easy fix but i forget what. Google it.

If you have everything backed up, just run the acer restore CD. This may be the fastest way to get your system running and do take advantage of the free Norton Anti-virus trail.

backed up as in floppy disks? hm well my pc doesnt have a floppy drive and my memory stick is only 128mb. its not really a big deal if i have to erase the harddrive i guess.

Backed up as in burned to a CD or seperate partition.

It is not enough information to suggest anything.
1. Software problem.
a) Viruses - you know what to do
b) Drivers, progs etc - try to start Windows in minimum configuration (like Safe Start?) to see if there is a difference. Overall speed will be slower but you need to check those sudden slowdowns.
c) Corruption of system files-then format HDD and reinstall Windows
Hardware problem
Hard to suggest something. Might be HDD, RAM, overheat, Video. Who knows. But if there is a problem it should be some sort of sign.
