9-22-04 4750 new fan firmware - Page 2

Mine works beautifully. Use the portable/laptop settings. If your using the new firmware. Check your temps then. And don't worry about lag its designed to rapidly scale processor speed as part of powernow.

While using portalbe/laptop I find that powernow does have to much lag!!! doesnt scale processor speed fast enough

Does for me. Maybe a little bit of a lag when opening programs, but its worth if for the drop in temps.

My HD is running 2*C hotter on this bios (not sure why) but the temps are back down around 35-36*C for CPU. Only difference I notice is that the fans don't shut off. My guess is they are at a lower speed then in the last revision where they cycle on/off at 35 and 40*C which explains the higher HD temps.

I'm not sure if this firmware helped me. I'm getting 75 degrees in far cry now, instead of 70 degrees. I've tried both power settings. Can I update my firmware to the iso they sent me before. <-- I'm not sure about this process.

cpu dropping down to 30-31...hd at about 38ish with this new firmware..but the fans r on all the time ..even on portable/laptop mood which kinda sucks

I think that's what it'll have to come to Gary, fans always on. What really stinks is that we're only now getting an idea about noise level, way out of the umbrella 30day return policy. I love the machine, but it's gotten a little too noisy for public use in situations when there are speakers (presentations, lectures, etc.).

after leaving my lappy on overnight on laptop mode, cpu is 32C and HD is 38C.
I don't mind having the fans on all the time, anything to keep my baby cool.

Can you guys post some temps using far cry so I can compare. Right after I have a confrontation in far cry I go to the menu then alt-tab to get my temps from mobile meter.

I just appreciate how diligent they've been. AW would have sat on it for months scratching their heads telling customers they were working on a fix, I'm glad Sager puts effort into pleasing the customer and providing post purchase support. Makes me actually want to get my next machine from them, unlike AW who I've sworn off and warn others about.

guys with the newest firmware, exactly how loud is the fan noise when doing basic web browsing? is it like a very quiet whirr, or a more aggressive noise, cuz, currently, my laptop is silent for 30 secs, then at 40, it whirrs up to a medium volume at which it stays until the core gets to 35*(which takes like 2-3 minutes), at which point it shuts off. So i have intermittent medium whirring that get's kinda annoying. Is the fan volume at low usage low, or is it still kind of a medium volume. Personally I just throw on some headphones and the sound goes away, but in classes (for which my lappy is required) i dont want to be drawing attention.

Use the new firmware and use the portable / laptop settings and the fans just stay on low. In a classroom you should be fine! try it out you be happy!
right now with this setting and surfing the net my temps are 37cpu and 42hd and fans on low. good stuff.
I think it's unavoidable to draw attention in class wbeck, mine sure did. That's why I was hoping they could release a bios revision with an "ultra-low" idle fan speed.

the fans are pretty quite when you're on lappy mode, and I don't notice it when the fans are on medium on deskie mode because that usually means I'm either gaming or blasting vulgar rap music or both

Alrighty, I did the upgrade and I'm now running with the new firmware. It is nice. Not too loud, which is good. Currently my temps are at 36*C cpu and 41*C hd. WHich is nice. And those temps seem to be pretty steady. cool.

OK, vote: Should I go play some doom3, UT2k4, or fiddle aroud with linux somemore?
play some games and tell us what your temps are with the new firmware
post #37 of 57
Games first, linux second. Then eventually game on Linux. Use WINE.

it's nice that everything comes in a full circle like that. I just installed Doom3 and its off to play! -drat!!! all my saved games are back on my desktop at home!! humph.

Wish i could just get linux to work well. For Menator I'm getting around 66 degrees in farcry.

Well, doom3 for me last night was a nightmare! yet it was kinda fun. And i'm not talking about the shadows, suddenly appearing monsters and creepy audio. I spent about 3-4 hrs just getting it to work properly. And i succeeded! haha! Well, not completely. but mostly.
But let's not get into this offtopic thing in this thread.
Temps:
Here's my story. After configuring Doom3 for max performance, I experienced video (not entire system as audio still worked and I could ctrl-alt-del about and here the windows desktop, yet not see it) lockups after about 3 minutes of gameplay. I thought that maybe my vid card was overheating, or perhaps a software/driver thing, considering the tweaking I was doing. So I installed the Cat4.9s which ATI optimized for Doom3 and Also set a fan blowing directly on the lappy. I then played Doom3 til 5 this morning No lockups. However, since I did both the software and cooling mods at the same time, i do not know which one was at fault for my problem. It also skewed my cpu and hd temps, which only got up to about 55*C and 35*C respectively (see, they were skewed by the fan)while playing (Well, after exiting and immediately checking mobilemeter). When web surfing, my most consistant temps are 37*C cpu and 42*C hd
