Desktops and LCD reccommendations please

Hey guys. Looking to buy a new desktop and LCD. Just need a few tips on what i should get.

Im Looking for an LCD from anywhere from 19"-21/2". Im looking to spend up to 1K, maybe a little more. i know the larger LCDs are a lot, so im looking for the best my budget can get. I will want to use this LCD as my primary monitor for my desktop AS WELL as my primary tv. I was told the "all-in-wonder" card on the 9800 pro would solve this issue, instead of a tv tunner. Any thoughts, idea, comments on that? please give any reccomendations on gaming/tv LCD's, and how to get it working.

Also, im looking to custom build a desktop on line or where ever. I would be using this desktop for gaming, email, surfing the net, etc... i will NOT be doing anything major on it like graphics or anything. So if you guys have any ideas of cheap places, with good customer support let me know. Also, any reccomendations on build types would be appreciated... im looking to spend about 1K on the computer too... here is the build i have in mind which comes to 1050 at ibuypower.com

AMD 64 3000
1024 RAM 2x512 dual chennal
120 gb 72K
ATI 9800 pro all in wonder 128 mb tv in/out
nice case with a window, 2x fans
dvd/cd burner
XP pro.
Whatcha think?? overkill? not enough?? i want it to handle games like farcry, and doom 3 and all these bad a$$ games with ease!!!!

Well thats about all... thansk for your help guys!

dell 2001FP hands down, has 16ms and is 20.1 inch lcd...can't beat that..unless your a baller like jswriter or captain al w/ the HP 23 inch 16ms...whoo hoo those are nice

if your building a new pc, i recommend goin w/ a 3500+ amd since AMD will be more than likely to only offer future upgrades of the socket 939 so that leave you plenty of ugrading possibilities in the future like the FX55 etc.

Yup, the Dell 2001FP is a fantastic LCD. Dell's coupons and/or outlet prices make the 2001FP quite probably the best LCD you can buy. The ONLY reasons I'm gonna try the HP L2335 are its 23" 1920x1200 widescreen + HDTV capabilities.

If you're willing to wait a bit, you might want to get the X800 XT version of the AIW. That should give you more oomph for your games.

Also you might want to take a look at the response times for those LCDs. 20 ms or less is probably best for gaming (I have 2 x 16ms 17" LCDs - no ghosting whatsoever).

Good point! Both the Dell 20" and HP 23" LCDs I mentioned have 16ms, as well. I've heard that Samsung is gonna release a desktop LCD with 12ms, but I don't know when.

Samsung 172X. It has the 12ms response time.

Not possibly.... at current you would need at least AMD 3500+ due to only the S939 chips supporting dual channel..

wow, i checked ebay, and some people are selling thier 2100fp's for under $600. If i could get a nicea$$ LCD for 600, i could spend more than 1K on the system.

anyone have ideas for a nice widescreen gaming LCD???? i really liked the widescreen on my old 8790, any ideas?

The 2001FP is a great monitor. Check my specs for a good Athlon 64 system. I'm still trying to find a 6800 Ultra card for it.

Get a Counter Top, from liek Lowes or Home Depot, I did that before, works great for a desk... then just come up with legs or something to prop it on.. (ie: a pair of 2 drawer file cabinets)

As for me now, I have a groovy glasstop desk :P

Geforce 6800GT ... HP 2335 .....

I love my set up, it's just kick ass... C'mon man! You know you want to! LOL

So far, I've got 3 other people trying to out do my system ... again.... this happens every time I either buy or build something...

But nobody is nuts enough like me to drop $$$ on the LCD (besides js here on the forums! lol! )
I spent > $1,000 USD to set up my dual LCD setup.

So yes, I'm just as nuts as you people.

As for video cards - honestly, I don't think there are any benefits of choosing ATI or NVIDIA over the other. Just pick the one that suits you best and you should be happy with it.
