Do all 8600's have light leakage?

Do all Inspiron 8600's have light leakage to some degree? I'm asking because I've read quite a few posts about it on this forum and right now I'm tyoing this on a friends Inspiron 4000 that has alot of leakage. When I'm on a black background I'd say the whole bottom quarter of the display panel has like a light halo on it. I had an IBM Thinkpad and didn't notice this problem at all.

Mate, it is overexagerated here as people get a bit paranoid. The Dell laptops are generally very good, and no more subject to light leakage than any other brand.

My 8600 has some light leakage. There is a very small amount that's along the bottom edge of the screen. It's only noticable on a black screen. I only notice it while watching a DVD and even then it's no big deal (and I'm picky). Some light leakage is normal. Here's a link to a article from PC Magazine where they tested several laptops from different manufacturers (IBM included). All of them had some light leakage. Some people get overly concerned over this issue (myself included). I just got my 8600 two weeks ago and I'm very happy. Here's a link to the article. It's actually a picture that shows the various screens with the light leakage. The graphic results based on the all-black screen show the amount of light emitted from each point on the display, as detected by a charge-coupled device (CCD) with a 768-by-512 matrix of sensors. The light measurements are shown using a "false color" process that assigns different colors to the different brightness levels. As seen on the scale included with each image, the darkest regions are shown as dark blue and the lightest regions as red. In many cases, we can see some light leakage at the bottom of the screen, which comes from the LCD panel's backlight.

hi,
i jsut recieved my i8600..when watching dvds or when the black screen saver is on..i notice about 1/2 inch of light leakage line across the bottom..also from the top there's about 2 oval shaped..about an inch..light leakage circles..not noticeable when the background is colored.i spent 45 mins with technical support..i did diagnostic tests....i was told i can have it replaced but someone would have to coem and do it for me..they wouldn't jsut send me a screen that i can install...seems like a big hassle, but for a 1300 investment i expect it to be in very good condition..what should i do? i thought they just send it to you for you to install? would another customer rep allow this? let me know thanks
