Hi All

Quick question that could help me take the decision to purchase my Alienware laptop.

In what quality and resolution can you run Far cry on your Alienware Area51-m?, and with what hardware configuration?.

I play at 1280x800 at high with a couple options like textures at very high. My specs are in my sig.

Edit- just wanted to add that I only get slowdowns when I use smoke/gas grenades...

I played it in 1024x768 as it didn't look better in higher res IMO and set everything on high/ ultra high. Looked stunning, and framerates were decent. Should you get a new 51m, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

this is very nice to hear, Far Cry is my current favourite game I run it maxed out on my self build amd 64 / 6800 ultra based desktop apart from res 1280/1024 limitation of my TFT, tbh i wasnt expecting to be able to run it on max with ultra water qual etc on the lappy, cant wait too get mine but its a long haul yet only ordered yesterday

I have a question. When I play far cry, i select full screen mode, but the game still pops up in a box that does not cover the entire screen.

Will it go to full screen if you press ALT+ENTER once it launches in the window? That is how to bring a windowed application or launch to fullscreen.

are you using alienware drivers or the omega drivers ron22lefty? I have this problem with the omegas..

Here was the solution, courtesy of Devion:

right click desktop>propertise>settings>advanced
Now depeding if u have the OLD ati controls.
>dsiplay>scale image to screen

Im using the omega drivers. I dont have the stretch image to screen when I go in settings>advanced>displays.

Farcry is the only game I've found that I cannot run on full settings on my 1600x1200 screen (Sager 5690). I run it on 1280x1024 on full settings. I have not tried Doom 3 yet, it is next. Farcry also seems to be the longest shooter I've found, it is the first one that I did not finish within a few days. I do hate the save game feature, so it is the first game ever that I started using the console prompt to save games, the cooler level just became to darn frustrating having to go through the trivial stuff to get to the good parts.

ron22lefty, i forgot to post a part of devions reply. Apparently there is a new control panel and he doesn't know where the stretch option is.

I am 99 percent sure that if you get rid of the Omegas and use the Alienware drivers your problem will go away.

I personally always have problem with the Omegas...I alwasy test every new release but can never get them to work quite right.

LurkingJayhawk have you tried TRON 2.0?? Its a immersive, story-driven, fairly long FPS as well

I believ I installed the omega drivers right over the top of the Alienware drivers. Should I just uninstall the omega. I have only had my laptop for a couple of weeks. Is there a new alienware driver out, or should I just leave the one it came with on here.
If you just got your laptop a few weeks ago I would probably visit the Alienware site and download the newest driver just to be safe. They don't always install the newest ones on the systems as they ship out.

Also I would uninstall all the video drivers off your system and start from scratch to make sure there are no problems.

one more thing, the Omegas require you to unisntall the ATI control panal before installing the Omega Drivers...Did you do that? If not that may be why you dont see the stretching option.

Maybe I'll have to give it a whirl after Doom 3. As one who spent many quarters on the original Tron Arcade game, it is worth a shot.

In all honesty, Farcry is the first shooter that I actually felt I got my moneys worth on time spent since Half Life. I'm not sure why, I spend $50 on a 4 hour round of golf, but a game that only last 2 days seems like a Ripoff at times. Maybe bad thinking on my part.

Any game that i spend less then a week on and spent 50 bucks for it seems like a ripoff.

I got Tron 2.0 for 14 bucks on ebay..have a look
