its perhaps time for reformat...

with the new release of the omegas, i think its time that i reformated my lappy (CL56). ive lost 40 gigs of memory somewhere along the line (not many programs are installed, perhaps files/data doesn't get fully deleted when i rip dvds then "back them up..."). i was wondering if there is a particular order i should follow once my HD is reformated? i have the driver disc from hypersonic. i would also want to add SP2 sowhere in there too. i especialy am interested on what order i should do with the new video driver...

After you format and install windows do the following:
1 Install SP2
2Install teh CPU drivers
3Install the mobo drivers
4Install Omegas
% install the rest of drivers

When you are done with the drivers
Install an Anti-vir, configure windows, update things(anti-vir and windows)
Install the apps
the install the games
Get Regcleaner and clean things.
Install the games.
Defragment

Sorry, but that's wrong.

Always install the mobo/cpu drivers first. The reason for this is that these drivers dictate the updates and how they're applied, as well as how they should perform.

It should be:

Chipset drivers
wifi or other hardware drivers
DirectX 9c
Windows updates
omega drivers
other software drivers

NTFS formatting

Please help,

I recently have to format a couple a NTFS HDs, Maxtor DiamondMax Plus9 160GB model 6y160p0041201 and an IBM 120 GB.

I could not get into XP during boot up. Long story. The original XP CD hung, so I use a win98 boot disk to do a FDISK but I got the message that the drives are not recognized. I then use Maxtor utilities which came with the drive but it recognized the drive and could not format it. I ran a virus test with F-TROT DOS for the MBR and boot sectors no virus.

I knew both drives to be good.

Does anybody know what to do?

make a bootable CD including(win xp+SP2 incorporated with the installation)
and format everything.
DOS won't see NTFS partitions

If you can still boot with the Windows XP CD, try using the recovery console.

I work at a place where we sell computers and write custom database software. Our tech guy (and me too) always updates the bios/mobo/chipset drivers first. Usually we install the video after that and then any Windows updates but on my own personal comps I install the updates and then Video/Sound drivers.

One important thing to note is to never connect to the internet untill your virus and firewall protection is up.

You'd be supprised about how many newly formatted pc's get infected in the short time they are online before the firewalls are up.
