ASUS M6Ne problem

Thread Starter
I have had the M6NE for about 2 weeks now and I absolutely love this machine.

Only problem I have is that the wireless LED indicator is not functioning. This has been brought up several months ago and I have tried recommended steps: updating bios, etc. However, the LED is still not turning on.

No one has posted anything recently and I just wanted to see if anyone else is having the same problem and if there is a known fix.

Thanks.

what brand mini pci network card are you using?
Did it ever work?
Does the wireless work and just not the LED?
That only works with the Intel 2100 or 2200 cards. If you have another brand, it wont go.

There are other things that might otherwise stop it. What brand card, and what bios rev are you using?

Thanks for the responses.

The wireless works fine and the LED has never worked. Here is my info:

Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG
BIOS: BIOS Ver. 0205
Windows XP Home with SP2

hey, at least you're saving a couple mV of power

maybe you got a bad led?

Bad LED is a thought, although seems unlikely to me. I guess there would be no way to check without sending the notebook back.

Do your hotkeys work? I've seen that if the process hcontrol.exe is not running, then the hotkeys won't work, but also the light will not toggle on and off.

yes hotkeys are working.

You can test the wireless LED with my test program:
http://highlandsun.com/hyc/leds.zip

run from the command line
leds.exe W 1
to turn that LED on. (Use 0 to turn it off.) If the program can't open the Asus device driver, then you're just missing that driver. If the program runs but the LED doesn't switch on or off, then maybe the LED is burned out.

I ran the program and got the following:

usage: leds.exe M:T:W 0:1

The LED did not turn on. Do you think this indicates the LED is burned out?
No. If you got the "usage" message then you didn't run the program correctly so it didn't do anything at all.

Once again, you have to run it as
"leds W 1"
to turn the wireless led on. If it worked successfully, the program doesn't print anything at all.

Thanks - I ran the program as instructed and my wireless LED turned on!!!

So now I know it is not a burned out LED.

Do you know which ASUS driver I need?

All you need to do is update your BIOS - download the latest version from the asus website in the support section. Use WINFLASH utility to flash your BIOS and the LED problem will go away. The WINFLASH util is also available at the asus site in the same support section.
Good luck.

Thanks for your reply, but I have updated the bios and the LED still is not working.

His .sig lists BIOS version 0205 which *is* the latest M6Ne BIOS, last I checked.

You also need to havethe Intel ProSet software installed for the LED to work.

Yes I just updated the BIOS in trying to troubleshoot this issue - so I have the latest available. The intel PROset software has also been updated.

How about the ATK0100 ACPI Utility? I uhad the same problem with the wireless led and updated this along with the the 0205 BIOS so I am not sure which one fixed the problem. Go to Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Mngr/System Devices and the ATK0100 ACPI util is 4th or 5th from top to bottom.

I resolved the issue by reinstalling xp and all the drivers. LED works now. Thanks.
