how did you get free shipping? i tried your link and i get 7 as lowest.
Hey I sprang on one of these for my I600m. Amazing, got it for 96.50 including shipping (30 USD) to the Neth. Ant. It was 126 and odd, but was able to convince my sales rep to get me a loyalty discount.

Thanks for the link OP.

If you check your order status and click the "In Production" it will tell you the description of your status. If you look it will say that it is back ordered.

lol... that is way too long to wait, in my opinion. i'd just get it elsewhere.

My order has shipped as on 9/29/04 I guess that I don't have to wait till Oct 19th.
Just thought I would let eveyrone know mine has shipped also. I ordered 9/28. Also, I checked the warranty via the SN that Dell provided and it's definitely a 3yr warranty. Can't wait...

What will be the difference (in terms of performance) between:
a) a 7200rpm and 2mb cache hard disk
and
b)a 5400rpm and 8mb cache hard disk

thanks

Generally the rotational speed is more important than the cache, but it depends on the application... and the size of the HD also makes a difference (areal density). But I can say generically in that case the 7200rpm drive will be about 20% faster in measured terms. This is a moot point really seeing as currently the only 7200rpm laptop HDs out have either 8MB or 16MB cache...

anyone know what carrier they shipped it? they don't give me a tracking # on the site.
They ship via DHL.

If you go to your Order History and click the order # there is a "waybill" that is underlined. Copy this # and go to DHL to track.

I already received mine @ 10am. Great Service from DHL!

Got ship notification today (even though it was posted on web yesterday) and the drive arrived today (I'm in Cali and also picked the cheapest shipping). Already ghosted and installed. Man is this thing fast!

I already had swapped out the original with another Seagate 5400RPM 8MB cache drive I got to revamp my old Toshiba. Things are noticeably faster than the Seagate.

Boot time/program loads are better and even the temp is lower than the Seagate which is surprising. The Seagate scored 23MB/s in Sandra while the Hitachi gets 34MB/s.
