Before I buy any laptop...

Why Sager? Can someone convince me?

I've been to several sites; Gateway, Dell, Alienware, WinBook, Sager, ect.
Although Sager looks like an outstanding value, before I lay out $2500.00+ on a laptop I have a few questions.

Reasearching companies on the BBB site, out of all the above mentioned, Sager is the only one that does not have a favorable report.

SNIP
Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau. An unsatisfactory record is given when a pattern in the company's customer complaints causes us concern, when the company does not respond to complaints, or when it will not substantiate its advertising claims.

In this case, our complaint history for this company shows that although the business has responded to some customer complaints brought to its attention by the Bureau, others remain unanswered.

A Better Business Bureau report is based on our file information and experience with an individual company over the past three years.

The Better Business Bureau does not endorse, recommend, or disapprove of any company, product, or service.

END SNIP

Searching reviews on ZDNet or CNet, I cannot find any review on Sager products. Why is this?

Going through this forum, it seems like a mixed bag of rave reviews and horror stories. For those of you who have purchased a Sager (8887s) would you recommend it? Would you pruchase from Sager again.

I have other questions, but for now that's all

Actually jem, I just started at this board a week ago myself and that was my first post. I have learned that many people do not trust the BBB ratings because the BBB is mainly in it for the money. Also, if you think about the type of people that might complain. These people might have dropped the laptop out of their car while driving and then claim sager sent them a bad one. Sager says "Screw you" and these people make complaints. Thats just hypothetical but something close has probably hapened.

The reason I am waiting for a sager 8890 is for the value, and the fact that not many other companies, including dell gateway toshiba and all other major name brands offer laptops at such high specs. Not only does sager offer top of the line products, but they also do so at prices which arent way overinflated. Anyway, hope that helps a bit. Have fun shelling out $3k for a laptop.

Purchased a 8887V in March and find that it's the best computer I've owned during the past 8 years. I've had a Gateway, a Dell and an IBM, all had problems during the first 2 months of purchase. My Sager has been problem free. The screen is bright and crisp, pictures and video look great. The speed of the computer puts many desktops to shame. I've added all kinds of software without any glitches.

The ATI M9 is better than any video card that I've owned but I'm looking forward to upgrading {if possible} to the M10 Pro, so I can run Doom 3 and Half Life 2 with most of the frills.

The only defect that I noticed when I rec'd the 8887 was one stuck/dead pixel toward the top left hand corner {barely noticeable}. However I can't seem to see it anymore, I guess it packed it's bag and left town.

I would certainly purchase from Sager again, probably another 8887 / 8890 series in the near future.

Try calling them up and asking them for details. I think you'll be surprised.

ZDnet and Cnet are part of CNET Networks, Inc., and they have a certain bias towards major name brands, just as we do towards Sager. In practical terms though they can't afford to review every laptop out there, so smaller companies usually don't have product reviews.
