60 GB 7200 RPM Hitachi HD failing, ironically

Well, my hard drive is failing (chkdsk keeps finding new errors and I have had to reformat numerous times due to corrupt files). And ironically, my warranty expired about a week ago. There isn't any way that I can RMA drive through Hitachi, is there? I see that on newegg the same drive has a 3 year manufacturer's warranty. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Check on hitachi's website and see if they have it listed there.

Sorry, but you misunderstood. go here http://www.hitachigst.com/portal/sit...a0466460e4f0a0 and input your serial number. That will lookup the warranty status.

I'm going to buy a spare hard drive that I can use while I RMA the 7K60...Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd like to get a 40 gig 5400 RPM drive and order it today or tomorrow.

I'm looking at a Seagate 40 gig 5400 RPM Model ST94811A for $85 at chiefvalue.com..it has a 5 year warranty. Anyone know of a better deal?

You can't RMA a hard drive that came in an OEM notebook or OEM desktop to the ODM manufacturer of the hard drive. They will either deny the claim or just send it right back to you when they receive it. Their policies explicitly state that any rma's for OEM parts must be done through the OEM company (aka whoever you bought your computer from).

If you bought the hard drive itself from newegg or something then you could RMA it directly through the ODM with the 3 year warranty but since it came with an OEM computer the hard drive warranty expired when the computer warranty did.

I entered the serial number of my drive on that page and it says that I'm able to RMA it.

It very well may say that...but then when you send it in they will require proof of purchase and when you provide them with a computer receipt they will send it right back to you.

That's sort of unusual.
