what is wrong with my volume meter?

something really crazy happened to my 5660 today.

i started up counter-strike today (like usual), and i hit the volume down bar, but instead of getting the usual blue and yellow thin bar, i got this HUGE bright green VOLUME metter with a broken green line (looks like a tv volume meter, and not my 5660 volume meter).

the worst part is that it stays on my screen until i reboot. what happened? can anybody help?

Usually remote control software will install something like that... Did you install ANYTHING right before this started happening?

no, i didn't install anything before it started happening. i don't have any remote control software, either.

one other thing that might be interesting to note, if i press my front panel volume buttons now, the volume will automatically increase to max volume, or min volume, depending on the butoon pushed. i have no "in-between" now.

also if i open up windows volume control, i have no control over the master volume (it goes to max or min only, no in-between) but i can control my other volumes just fine.

yea the tv green bars happened to me once i think it was bc i installed a winamp plugin for hotkeys... but i rather have that instead of the blue line... i guess u should reinstall the drivers from the notebook cd....

I do not even install that volume-bar thingy. It seriously ****s up when used in games (since the keys are bound to b and c or smth).

i don't remember ever installing any driver or software for the volume control.

i do agree that it used to mess with my games when used in game, but only because it would flash on and off and make my windows cursor appear, not because it was using any of the keys.

maybe my laptop is just schitzo.

When I play quake3 matches I need some voice too. So i went out to buy headphones with mic and volume control so I could bypass teh volume meter

When I play some games the buttons do not even work and I would have to return to windows to adjust volume (FN+F5/6 do not work either then).

yea i think when using those kind of programs u only adjust the volume on that program but not from the actual volume control... ie when im watching tv on my 5670 and i try to adjust the volume from the front buttons ill see the volume increase in the program but no increase from the blue bar, so u have to go back to windows to adjust it

just as a note to anyone who is interested, i found a way to get rid of my volume bar now without having to reboot. hitting Fn+F3 (mute) will make it disappear, and then i can just pull up windows software volume control (my new best friend since this started happening) and unmute the main volume.

i still haven't got around to reinstalling any drivers. i'm just too lazy to dig up my notebook cd. darn procrastination. heh.

Well, I think it were the hotkey drivers that also install the volume bar. Since I do not need hotkeys, I never installed those in the first place after my first format
