Dell 2001fp - Page 2

In reading up on LCD's for months before buying, the NEC is by far the best compared to the Dell. But its more dough.

Is that coupon for all monitors? Dell often only gives discounts on their branded products. Make sure.

No, I got the 10% off deal on my Logitech Z-2200 speakers through Dell. It was a good deal with the 10% off and free shipping.

Yeah but 1100 isnt too bad for a TOP LCD like the NEC

Here is my review... Enjoy!

Sorry about the long delya, had a business meeting to go to. Anywayguys, here goes for my DELL Ultrasharp 2001FP review:

Packaging

I was suprised to see when I oppened the box everything so neat and properly packed It was padded decently, and the monito was stuck in place so that it would not move or get damaged. It was packed so that even though my box looked roughed up, the monitor was just fine. I was beginning to feel great about my purchase.

Initial Impressions

Well, first off, I was astonished at the sheer size of the monitor. I expected it to be big, and kinda flimsy, but as it turns out, it was a gigantic monitor, and it weight almost as much as my old 19" NEC CRT! It felt very sturdy, and I pressed in different areas of the monitor, and felt no flex.

Also, the actual screen itself was amazing. It was very smooth and glossy. I have another top end 15" Samsung LCD monitor, but this Dell dwarfed it, and it also made it look like the monitor was 10 years old.

The monitor also looks so dang sleek!!! It is silver on black sides, and black edges, with silver buttons. I must say the overall appearance was very nice.

Also, when you power it on, it says Dell Ultrasharp, then Genesis, then it says Display Perfection (a nice little touch...)

I turned it on, after plugging in my included DVI cable, and I saw colors and clarity that I never saw on my 19" NEC CRT (which is also high-end, or was 1.5 years ago....) I am falling in love with this LCD!

The monitor is also very thin, thinner than my 15" LCD!!

Features

This monitor is loaded, it has features galore!! The box also came with many different cables. Here is a list

1 USB to USB cable
1 VGA Cable
1 DVI Cable
1 Power Adapter
1 CD Manual

This monitor contained inputs for VGA, DVI, S-VIDEO, and COMPOSITE, all of which can be reached via the front buttons. I intended to use this monitor for my Xbox and Computer, which can be easily switched from DVI to S-Video at the change of a button!

The monitor contained brackets for the AS500 Sound Bar, which I did not buy, even though I wanted it. On the back, where all the inputs are, it also has 2 extra USB ports, and one USB port that goes from the monitor to the computer. There are also 2 more extra USB porst on the left side (as shown in pics.)

The OSD (On Screen Display) was very easy to use. It contained different settings and options you could choose from. It also has a PIP function for S-Video or Composite video, where for example, I could be on my computer using DVI, and use the PIP to show my Xbox!!! I absolutely love this feature!

Also, the screen is wall mountable. It uses (I think) a standard VESA wall mount bracket. It is very easy to take off the stand and to put it back on.
The screen tilts and up and down, and pivots left and right almost a full 90 degreess without moving the stand. Also, it is heigh adjustable, and as shown in the pics, it can move easily from low, to a very hight level.

Thats it for features, I did say it was fully loaded!

Looks / Style / Quality / Pixel..

Well, I love how this monitor loos. It is simply fantastic. The buttons on the front, feel like quality when you press them, and it just overall seems like a very well built and well designed product. I can see why it is rated so high in so many reviews. As I said before, it is very heavy for a LCD, which gives the impression it is quality built.

One of my greatest fears was about pixel defects. I imeediately searched the web for a program that could test this, and I found one that could. To my sheer delight, ZERO pixels were found, and truste me, I looked as hard as I could!! At this point, I was really proud of my purchase!

Ghosting in very fast games like UT 2004

Well, after testing pixels, I tested it out by watching The Last Samurai and playing UT 2004. In both tests, ZERO visible ghosting (the monitor is 16ms response time!). I know ghosting, because I see it occasioanlly on my 15" LCD.

I played UT 2004 with 30 bots, and absolutely zero ghosting, it was buttery smooth! It stopped half way through for about 3 seconds, because my graphic card itself could not handle it!!

Conclusion

Well, I am very pleased with my purchase. This monitor has met and far exceeded my expectations as you can see from my glowing review!!! I love this thing. It is not only a great value, but it is (IMO) very high-end performance. It is so sleek and nice looking!!!

I look at the 15" LCD on my other computer, and it looks so puny and small. I cant go back to it, I have to get it at least to 17". it looks soo small now! This monitor has spoiled me for good.

This had been one of the best purchases I have made. If you are conisdering this monitor, BUY IT RIGHT NOW, GO!!!!!!

END OF REVIEW

Pics are in teh post below. Sorry about the horrible quality, I need a new camera. I also have two videos of me playing UT 2004 wiht no ghosting, but I need a way to share those.. any ideas??

What did you guys think of the review? Anything else you want to know??

Nice review! I've got the O-L-D version, and it's great. I think the only halfway decent purchase with my old dell was the monitor... but
@ Craig - Look at the latest Maximum PC, Raid is actually slower in gaming than traditional hard drives! Still great for bragging rights though...

My only complaint:

On power saving mode, the screen shuts off (dims to an orange light on power), and emits a high-pitched noise. Quite annoying

Solution: turn the who thing off lol (I usually don't because I have my USB mouse plugged into one of the bottom USB ports)

What was the total cost because I know Dell's offers fluctuate. I can take the plunge as I type this, but I am unsure if I should hold out for a lower price. I can get it for $674 + $30 for shipping under Dell Small BIz...Is this a good price?? My time is expiring....
Yeah that's a great price. I got it for 764 with free shipping.
Well the Dell Small BiZ coupon expired. I hesitated to purchase the display through the Small BiZ Department because I dont own a small Biz, but I found a better Dell Home deal, so I am going to place my order. The total comes to $689.20 shipped with No TaX. Awesome!!! I can't let this slip.

I am interested in mounting the display to a wall, anyone know where I can purchase the compatable vesa mount???
No No...wait...I do have to pay TaX...damn the man...the tax man
The total comes to $732.28...so really not that bad.
I can't wait....
