Not sure if there is a performance increase but the acompanying Control Panel adds Brightness and Contrast which makes the screen much more viewable. The new drivers are WHQL also.

Those who don't know. WinXP and Win2K on the 8887 with ATI M9 128

1. Uninstall the old ATI Conrol Panel and ATI Drivers. Don't reboot until you uninstall both. Not sure if matters what order you uninstall.

2. After you reboot you should have the 800X640 resolution. Now install the Drivers first. You will get a *.inf not found error or something like that. Just exit the install. You will need to install the drivers from Device Manager. When you started the install it puts the *.inf file in this directory unless you changed it.

\ATI\SUPPORT\wxp-w2k-radeon-7-90-030605m-009437c-efg\2KXP_INF

Form Device Manager, Choose Display adaptors | Update Driver | Install from a list... | Don't searh... | Have Disk and browse to the above directory.
Choose
CX_09437.inf for WinXP
and
C2_09437.inf for Win2K

(Choose RADEON 9000 SERIES)

Now you can install the Controll Panel which should go off without a hitch. Allow to reboot and you should have the native resolution of 1600 X 1200.

The drivers seam to work pretty good. Still got invisble ground in BF1942.

Much better than the low res start up w/the cat 3.4 drivers

I'm still getting that damn INF not found error... I knew there were reasons I liked nVidia better. Shouldn't have to install the drivers in some special way.

I'm still getting complete computer lockups in Dark Age of Camelot and Planetside.

I get those as well... Quite often in Planetside. Glad to know I'm not alone. Check my post in the 56xx support forum. Hopefully we can find a fix.

damned ATI

I still dont understand why every driver release with ati it is such a pain in the butt to get the stupid latest drivers installed.
Im starting to wish i could perform some sort of triple bypass surgery on my 5670 and install a nvidia card, i never had any problems with them.
I was hoping ati would have been much better, or hopefully get better

The reason for the round about way for the drivers is because these drivers are designed for the regular Desktop PC and not the Mobile (Laptop) one. Drivers based on the Mobility Version should install properly if they (ATI or Clevo) ever make any. I don't game so that introduces a whole different set of problems like HT or not HT.

Besides the "low resolution on bootup" fix, has anybody found any advantages to upgrading from Cat 3.4 drivers?

to all those having lockups

I have a 5670 and i was having the same lockups in MOHAA, after downloading the newest drivers from http://www.s-seven.net/ati/ everything has run smooth as butter, i've had no troubles whatsoever! I would really reccomned it

computer_potatoe thanks for the instructions on installing the catalyst 3.5. They seem to work fine, and I have the rotation tab back in control panel. Whoppee!.

cooltoad and powdahound, thats great news as I have a 5670-V and experienced the same lock-up issues playing games.

I guess I can test a game or two for a few hours tonight. I hope for some good results.

By the way, the s-seven drivers are the same as the ones from ATI, just a modified version, for an easy trouble-free install process.

I guess I don't mind a manual installation via device manager

One question, do both of you guys have HT enabled? Because I can't disable it cause I really need it for the tasks I perform, hope your answers are "Yes"

I went to go check what was under the setting tab in the display properties and I just have windows default tabs there.

I installed the control panel that was under the cat3.5 driver off the ATI website. I get the little icon next to the clock but I lost all of the advanced options. I even tried the control panel I downloaded w/the cat3.4 driver but I still don't get the advanced options.

Anyone else experience this or know how to fix it?

I turned off HT a while ago and since, no lockup at all - With the Good ole 3.2 drivers...

I don't think 3.5 drivers with HT enabled will fix the problem - It's supposely a problem with DX9.0 and HT

I've done HT w/DX 8.1 and it did the exact same thing. I'd rather go to dx8.1 than lose HT!

I just found out that I have HT enabled (it came that way from Sager). I also have 9.0a, and loaded the 3.5 drivers from s-seven.net today. I'm happy to say that I have had no freezes in over 5 hours of gaming tonight, when the longest I ever went without locking up with the 3.2 (from Sager) or 3.5 (from ATI, non-modded) was less than 30 minutes, often much less. I'm a happy camper now.
