A couple of notes:

I ordered one last Wednesday @ $142.16. The 5-7 days to ship is no joke. Mine won't ship until Monday. :-(

This link is for "Small Business Owners". I opened an account last week when the similar offer came out for "Home Users". When I tried to order this one the site wouldn't accept my password. I'm assuming I would have to open a SBA before letting me get this latest deal. Is that what you had to do? Anybody else run into this problem?

mecdave,

Just ordered one! Less than five minutes, $146.xx poorer (tax and shipping), and it's on the way. I have a SBA though.

I didn't know how slow my 4200 RPM drives were on my 6805 and 6811 until I just used PerfectDisk to defrag them for the first time. PAINFUL!!! Where it took 2:34 to defrag my desktop with an 80 GB drive with moderate fragmentation and 54 GB of usage, it took 4:15 for my 6805 and 3:47 for my 6811 with moderate fragmentation and 47 GB of used space.

I'll let you know if the 7200 RPM drive helps.

I don't know, never ordered from dell home, although I have an acoount in SB. By the way I didn't order the hard drive, I'm broke right now

I must confess, I had a very hard time saying no to this deal because I am broke as well.

Lets hope this time next year we will find these in the bargain sections being replaced by 10000 RPM 100 gigers

I just got this email from Dell:

"We have reviewed your order. Although we had anticipated being able to ship your order sooner, we are experiencing an unexpected delay with your order and will not be able to ship this order and any associated orders until on or before 10-08-2004."

It's already been 5 days, now I'll have to wait another 11 before they'll even ship! Remind me not to buy any Dell products in the future.

your not alone buddy, i got that same message today. i might call and try to get them to adjust my price to the 126 (i paid 142 + free shipping on the other deal)

dissapointing, but ahwell, it will be worth it
post #9 of 48
That's odd, I haven't received that email yet. My order status still shows that it will ship tommorrow ( the 28th ) or earlier.
Well, mine was supposed to ship today and they waited until today to notify me. So, I would say you're not out of the woods yet. Apparently they can't think more than 24 hours ahead.

In that case I'm sure I'll receive that email tommorrow, unfortunately.

If Newegg or Zipzoomfly would just drop their price another $5 I would spend the extra $10 (I don't have to pay tax to them) and cancel with Dell. I probably will before the next 11 days are up anyway.

Question not quite related. Have you guys ever had bad experience with www.newegg.com? If so, please describe.

alright, well the question is how much of a difference does the 8mb buffer make compared to the 2mb buffer?

I'm a long time user of Newegg. They don't get any better than Newegg. Click the link for more info...

You lost me. Who are you responding to or what are you referring to?

looked at zip zoom fly, and i realized that the E7k60 was the 8mb version of the 7k60. so the question was that of my own.

The 'E' model is a heavy duty version of the 7k60 intended for servers. They both have 8MB buffer.

"The combination of speed and endurance on Hitachi's Travelstar E7K60 gives users an industrialstrength 2.5-inch hard drive to take on demanding data-access requirements typical of applications such as network routers, point-of-sale terminals, blade-servers, and telephony networking systems."

excellent, thanks then

The e7k60 is one that is designed for "always on" usage and never spins down.
