delayed write failure keeps borking my install

I just got my sager 8886/8887 from pctoque today but I am having a major issue

once I get windows installed and the drivers configured I keep getting "delayed write failure" to the MFT and some parts of the windows system directory. If I reboot a disk check gets performed and some files fixed, after that when I try and login windows informs me my profile is not there and it can't create a temporary profile either "insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service" or an error about there not being enough disk space to create the temporary profile. Which I find odd since I haven't installed any additional software

my order for installing the drivers has been

1.windows install
2. upgrade to SP 1 for XP
2. install intel chipset drivers
3. install audio drivers
4. install ATI video drivers

I had this happen twice today, and the amount of time at which the failure occurs is pretty random from what I can tell

ideas?

WinXP: Not enough system resources to load temporary profile

I am having the same problem, but mine came about a different way. I started with a working XP Pro partition and made a ghost copy. On the copy, I started removing programs & services and disabling hardware to create a bare bones partition to be used for recording music (background services and hardware polling cause dropouts during recording). At one point, I removed too many services and couldn't boot up. Trying "last known good configuration" at reboot didn't work, and neither did editing the registry from the good partition. I eventually turned all the services back on via Winternals Emergency Recovery Disk. But now I can only boot into Safe Mode. Regular mode results in the same "can't load profile" and "insufficient system resource" messages.

After I first turned off too many services and before I turned the services back on, I used the good partition and added some new hardware: 1) a SoundBlaster card, 2) a USB Wifi, and 2) a flat screen monitor. When I boot into Safe Mode, the sound card and Wifi thing are detected.

I've looked into the XP startup process, and it seems that the issue is with Winlogon. I don't know why restoring services or adding new hardware would cause problems with Winlogon, but that's where the problem seems to be.

Anyone know anything about Winlogon (beyond what is in Wikipedia), especially regarding the differences between Safe Mode and regular mode?

Mike

Do you have a spare hard disk on hand?
